Best of 2019

This is where I will be sharing all those fabulous five star (and 4.5 star) reads that have rocked my world this year in all genres and sub-genres and be prepared, there have been a LOT of them this year.

It is always a little nerve racking when a series you thought was over ends up not being over and the author decides to continue it. Well, have no fear, this is one series that the author did a fantastic job with not only continuing but almost making it feel like a whole new series. It has everything I loved about the first and then just expanded on it.

One of these best Beauty and the Beast retellings I have every read! Just read it!!

It's been a hot minute since I have picked up this author, which I sadly great because this book reminded me all over again why I love her writing. So emotional and just beautifully written.

This series has been a favorite from the very beginning and just keeps getting better and better. If you want a good historical mystery with some light romance, this is a series you need to try and best of all, it's clean!

Another example of how a series can have a spin off and be just as good as the original. I adore this series! So darn good and so unique even though it is full of supernatural creatures we are all familiar with.

A dark YA fantasy series that blew me away! Just something fun and different and oh so hard to put down.

This series by the amazing Kagawa is quickly becoming a favorite. I love all the lore and detail and will be so sad when it ends.

All admit there isn't a whole lot I don't love that this author writes but this series stands out. It is so fun and packed full of all the good stuff, food, fight scenes, a little bit of romance, danger, intrigue, you name it, it probably has it.

A retelling that not only took me by surprise but has some magical twists and turns I really enjoyed and it's a stand alone so huge bonus there.

I love Kemmerer's endearing heartfelt reads and this one wasn't an exception. So darn good and hit all the right spots.

This book was just so darn good like almost everything this author writes. If you haven't tried her yet and are a fan of Women's Contemporary pick this up, you won't regret it.

This series is another favorite and after all these books later, is still holding it's own, which I am so happy about. I can't wait for the next one, I love these rag tag bunch of beasts.

These books aren't for everyone and yes, are pretty darn steamy but I just adore this author's writing and her messages and the light she sheds on something we don't see very often. I can't recommend her enough but yes, be warned, steaminess ahead!

Not even going to lie, I went into this not expecting, well anything really and came out on the other side absolutely loving it. So informative and set in a city and era that is so very hard to resist. Loved everything about it!

There is very little this author has written, that I've read that I haven't loved but I love her blend of the now with the past and always with a supernatural twist. Just so much fun and so entertaining.

I know this series with all it's harsh language and crazy residents isn't for everyone but for me, it's everything I love in a good solid mystery with characters that aren't your garden variety. Plus, Armstrong's writing is always so well done that I can't resist it.

What I think I love most about this book besides the sci fi theme that surprised me (usually not my genre) is the absolute girl power in it. But I picked it up trusting that Young could make me a fan and she completely did.

If you want a story that will completely mess with your head, give this one a try. I still think about it and go, "what the heck!"

This author seems to be one I either love or hate her books, thankfully, this one was a love for me. Just so endearing and it was hard not to relate to on so many levels.

Forget about the adorable characters, the diversity and the wonderful writing for a minute, even without all of that, this book would stand out for the body positive messages it has. I adored it and Sweetie. Hard not to love a bigger girl that isn't shamed or who she is and how she looks.

A fan of the fae, I normally am not but for some reason, I've really liked and enjoyed this series from the very beginning and I loved where this installment (the last maybe?) went by the end.

Not going to lie, it's hard for me to resist this era, I devour it but this story was exceptionally well done and heart warming and I'm so glad I took a chance on it.

Another stand alone fantasy book that I was not expecting to fall in love with but here I am, loving it all the same. This one is not just a beautiful cover.

I already love this author's Lady Sherlock series (that book will be on this list as well I'm sure) and even though I was expecting to like this retelling, I had no idea I would like it so much that I completely devoured it. As in, I truly had a hard time putting it down. I loved every single thing about it. So freaking good! I can't recommend it enough. READ IT.

I requested this because, HELLO, Jenn Bennett and okay, the time period and setting as well but even I, had no idea how wrapped up in this story I would become. I am hoping like heck this book will become a series.

I really do love this author and the way she usually messes with my head with her stories and unreliable MCs and even though I am still wishy washy on whether this is a 5 star or 4 star read, I am still in love with it for the sheer fact that it did mess with me and I love that about it. I love not always being able to guess every little thing that is going to happen next (which honestly, usually happens when I read mysteries).

I usually don't read a lot of YA mysteries because they are so darn predictable and I won't lie, even though I loved this author's debut novel last year I did see everything coming very early on but I loved her writing so I took a chance on her again. So glad I did because I really did love this one and this time, she took me by surprise a time or two which was so refreshing.

Did I mention that I love books that can mess with my head, because I do. When you find them, you have to grab on to them and share them with the world because very rarely anymore am I thrown for a loop in this genre and I really do just adore it when it happens.

I already knew I loved this author's work but for whatever reason I missed this book and completely bypassed it when it first came out. So happy I discovered it again and made time for it because man was it amazing. So emotional and just so uplifting and yet sad at the same time. I love these reads every now and then, they really do stick with you long after you have finished the story.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this. Even though I love the author, the topic of 9/11 can be so hit and miss but this was a huge hit. I loved everything about it and once again, Buxbaum did an outstanding job making something that could of been a fluff read have substance and meaning instead. If you haven't tried this author you really need to, lover of YA or not.

I decided to pick this up because a fellow blogger recommend it and I'm not going to lie, I was a bit leery about starting it. So glad I did because it was so much fun! In fact I bought the second and third book before I even finished this one because I liked it so much.

Cecy never ceases to stop amazing me with her brilliance in any genre that she writes and even though the fae truly just isn't my normal go to read, I adored this and can't wait for the next book. I seriously hope she writes this series fast because I need more!

This series has been a favorite from the absolute beginning and I just knew that this last book was going to be amazing and I'm happy to report that it was. Caine did not disappoint. I am so happy with the way it all ended, deaths, destruction, and all.

Again I picked this up on a whim and a rec and am so glad that I did because I had so much fun with it! With a lot of my favorite series ending this year or last it's nice to have something new to me to try and love and help ease the pain of losing the others. I've only read the first book so far, but I really am liking it and hope it just gets better and better as it goes.

This book! So steamy but so much fun. The bromance in this is just...it makes the whole story. I can't wait for book two!

Okay this is a different one for me. I've been branching out in genres this year and I love it! This was so good. So insightful and I encourage everyone to give it a try. It had me thinking nonstop about some of the things in here. How we see ourselves, how we see others and not being so mean and judgmental of everyone but especially of ourselves. Just, so interesting and a few things for me, really hit home.

This has been one of my most favorite series and I'm so sad it is over but it went out with a bang for sure! It took me forever to read this one because I just didn't want to say goodbye yet but I'm so glad I finally picked it up and read it. It was worth the wait.

Again. not my typical read but this book was so inspirational and fascinating. Whether you are of the same faith as this man or not, it is hard not to see how amazing and dedicated he is to passing on love, kindness, and support to everyone he comes in contact with. He has had a pretty amazing life inventing and saving lives from the time he was a doctor and even now in his 90's in other ways. Truly awe inspiring. I can only hope I am as active, kind, and happy at his age.
