Teaser Excerpt for Ruining You:
A guttural groan escapes him, and his hand tightens in my hair, exposing my neck. Placing his mouth in the middle of my throat, he beings to suck. The gentle open-mouth suction causes my body to tighten like a vice. I whimper, not from the pain, but from the intense pleasure that spreads throughout my body.

Bringing my lips to his, I whisper into his mouth, “Touch me.” Sticking my wet tongue out, I trace his lips before letting it slip inside his mouth and out again.

“Damn,” he gasps as a quake racks his body. The intensity of the moment claims us as we ravage each other’s mouths. Lip to lip and tongue to tongue, he breathes for me. Reaching down with his large hands, he pulls up the hem of my dress and grabs my ass. A low moan flows from me. The brick wall scrapes my back as he lifts me to step deeper between my thighs. It’s a welcome pain.

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I anchor myself to him. My lips fall from his for only a second before he grunts in displeasure and reconnects with me again. I feel his fingers tickle the inside of one thigh as they move closer to where my inner fire burns. The anticipation fuels the inferno within me, making my blood boil and leaving me panting for him.

My Thoughts and Review:

I wanted to read this the moment I put down Ruining Me with a tearful face and a broken heart. I didn't want Jay's story to be over. I wasn't ready for it in any sense of the word.

So like many others after a wonderful story has ended, I waited anxiously for the sequel to come out. Constantly checking for updates on the author's blog (sorry Nicole, I did stalk you there for a bit!) and eagerly soaking up any little teaser's she provided and longing for more.

Ruining Me was such a beautifully heartbreaking story. Beautifully told and beautifully handled. I was in shock with the ending and I felt so close to Jay that I felt her anguish and pain and I wanted to do something, anything to make it better for her. And, if I am being completely honest here (and heck why not, I just admitted to stalking Nicole's blog) I was even a little mad at Nicole for causing Jay so much pain. But even though I was mad at her, I had faith in her as a writer that she would make it all better in Ruining You. I had hope that Jay would get a happily ever after just like I wanted her to have.

I still had hope. But above all else, I just knew this was going to be one kick butt read and I was ready this time, with a box of tissues in hand to let the journey begin.

I wish I could say that this one didn't break my heart, but the truth is, it did. Jay broke my heart. The guilt and pain that she felt. The sorrow, her sorrow. But you know what? She grows. Oh how she grows.

Eli: “Don’t let go now, Jay. One-by-one, place each piece of your soul back together, but this time, make it stronger. Close your eyes and do it.”

Ah Eli. Eli is amazing. That quote alone should tell you how wonderful he is. For awhile there I didn't want to like him because, well, because I thought maybe we were going to get some competition with Kane going on and to be honest, I love Kane and I really didn't want a love triangle in this one even if I knew there more than likely was going to be one with Rhye (which, again, he really is a great guy too!). I just wanted Kane to win and I was ready to dislike anyone that stood in his way this time.

But Eli, is just Eli and he is fabulous and it was hard not to fall in love with him. He was the perfect support for Jay in every way and exactly what she needed when she needed it. His corny jokes cracked me up and really I just loved everything about him. I don't want to give anything away with him but I will say this, if things were different with him and with Jay, he actually is the one person I wouldn't have minded seeing her with, he really was that fantastic and supportive..

If Kane hadn't won me over in Ruining Me, then he most certainly would have in this one. He was so sweet and good. I was rooting for him the whole entire time. I don't think anyone else could have been better for Jay. Really he was everything she needed in a friend, companion, lover and so much more.

He stole my heart.

Nicole did such a fabulous job showing Jay's pain, her depression, her anguish and how she pieced herself back together again. This book is full of amazing character, from her parents to Reed and Molly and the ever reliable and absolutely hot Kane, Eli, Cal and Rhye. I really don't think I could ask for a better cast of characters.

This story tore at my heart, broke it into a million pieces and then glues it whole again. I think I felt almost ever emotion imaginable with reading this. Nicole is truly a talented author that has done a stupendous job handling some very real, hard and raw issues and bringing it all together to create a beautiful story about one girls journey to take back her life and be the nest that she can be.

I couldn't of asked for a better ending. Just beautiful!

If I could give this 10 stars I would.

Praise
"Simply put, this book was amazing. I've read more fantasy novels than than I can count, but this one is certainly one of the best. The heroine isn't some wishy-washy pansy that screams at everything, and the focus of the story isn't on some unbelievably beautiful teenage girl who suddenly becomes the biggest, baddest member of her species falling in love with some big, bad, sexy member of her newfound species. It's about a girl becoming something she never knew existed, finding her place within the pack family she values more than ever before, and an age-old feud that threatens everything she loves." ~Morgan

Book Description:

A jewel heist…

Michael Donovan, Sayuri’s old high school flame, now a detective with the Vancouver Police Department, is the officer in charge of the case.

What chance can he have…

Michael takes one look at Sayuri and falls in love with her all over again. But they parted in anger years ago and Sayuri is no longer the innocent girl he once knew. What chance can there be for a Vancouver cop with someone as famous as Sayuri McAllister? Especially when that cop is investigating her family and friends?
An unexpected marriage…

Then Sayuri’s widowed father, Sean, marries Alyssa James, a woman Sayuri has never even met. The three live uneasily together in the Point Grey mansion until the unexpected arrival of Alyssa’s brother, Hugh James, a devastatingly handsome, charming Irishman who immediately begins a campaign to bed and wed the delicious and wealthy Sayuri.

Things take a dangerous turn…

Accidents begin to happen. Or are they accidents? Nothing is as it seems. Michael distrusts Hugh James and fears that Sayuri’s life may be in danger.

Short Excerpt:

The following excerpt takes place the first time that Sayuri goes to Michael’s apartment.

As they went down in the elevator and across to the park, Michael spoke to the dog, “So far so good. We’ve got her in my apartment. I expect your full cooperation tonight. Whatever happens you are not to climb on the bed, should I get so lucky, or slobber all over Sayuri. If there’s any slobbering to be done, I’ll do it. Got it, buddy?”
Buttercup wagged her tail furiously, nearly knocking over a passing pedestrian.
Sorry, mam.”
Michael thought about how Sayuri had looked when she answered the door. So cool and composed. Delectable. Good enough to eat. Down boy, he reminded himself. Don’t blow it now. You’ve got her this far.
Taking a deep breath he muttered, “Keep it cool.” Then he looked at his dog. “Okay, Buttercup, do your thing so we can get back up there.”
****
She heard the key in the lock and a moment later man and dog were back in the room. Buttercup trotted over to Sayuri and leaned against her, looking up at her adoringly with one blue and one brown eye.
That was quick,” Sayuri commented as she scratched the dog behind her ears.
She was anxious to get back to you. We don’t often have visitors. Actually, I’m surprised at her reaction to you. She usually hides under the bed when there’s anyone she doesn’t know in the apartment.”
Under the bed? I can’t believe she can get all that bulk under a bed. Just what kind of dog is she? I’ve never seen anything like her. She’s huge. And those eyes are amazing.”
Sayuri moved to the armchair and sat down. Buttercup followed her and put her massive head in Sayuri’s lap.
Clearly she’s fallen in love with you. The vet thought she was probably half Malamute and half Newfoundland, but I’m pretty sure there’s some wolf in the mixture. And the two different color eyes are unusual, but they do happen, particularly in those breeds.”
Did you say wolf?”
Watch.” Michael came over to the dog, knelt down beside her and put his arm around her. He lifted his head back and started to howl. The dog threw her head straight back and joined him. The sound was at one and the same time musical and eerie.
Wow.” Sayuri stared at the dog. “I haven’t heard anything like that since I was twelve years old and went on a canoeing trip up Desolation Sound with my father. We could hear the wolves from our campsite every night. I loved the sound.”
Don’t let her howl give you any ideas about Buttercup’s personality. Her wolf genes begin and end with her howl. She’s a complete wimp.”
She’s a big dog for an apartment dweller.”
Yes, well, I didn’t exactly choose her. She just sort of happened.” Michael paused. You see, I’m in the R.A.A. Unit.”
R.A.A.?”
Robbery, Assault, Arson. We got an anonymous call that there was a break and enter in progress at an apartment house on the east side. When my partner and I answered the call, we didn’t find a robbery in progress. What we found was found a room full of people cutting and bagging cocaine. We called immediately for backup, but before it could come, gun fire was exchanged and people got hurt. It wasn’t supposed to have happened that way.”
Michael paused and frowned. Sayuri wondered if he was going to say anything more.
Then he sighed. “When it was all sorted out, as we were to leaving the scene I heard whimpering. I pulled this small scrawny shivering mass of matted fur out from under the bed. I was supposed to take her to the SPCA, but I didn’t. I took her home with me. She couldn’t have been more than two months old and she was half starved and filthy. I fed her and bathed her and the next day I took her to the vet for a checkup. He said there was nothing wrong with her that food and love wouldn’t cure.”
So you had a dog.”
I had a dog. I had no idea at the time she was going to grow into a giant hairy mammoth.” This was spoken with obvious affection as he ruffled the dog’s head.
But her name?”
Just look at her.”
Sayuri studied the dog. She had fur as thick as a bear’s, only longer. Her underbelly was white and everywhere else she was brown and black and white in large splotches. “I don’t get it.”
Look under her chin.”
Sayuri laughed. “Of course.” There was a large spot of bright yellow there.
The dog, tired of being the object of so much attention, moved to the fireplace, circled three times and plopped down in front of it.

About the Author:
I started to write soon after I found my first pencil. But I began to write for publication about 30 years ago -- professional books. I wrote six of them, all still in print and still in use. Only lately have I turned to fiction. I'd have done it a lot sooner if I'd had any idea how much fun it was!

I’ve lived in many different places. The US -- Certain cities call to me. I love San Francisco and Seattle and the wonderful Oregon Coast. Australia -- among the most open welcoming people in the world, and a wide open young country with incredible land and sea scapes, with amazing animal and bird life right out of science fiction. Canada -- HOME. The place where I belong.

I travel a lot. I usually spend the month of October in Europe, Greece or Italy, and the winter in a little house I built many years ago on a small non-touristy Caribbean Island. I have worked and studied in many places -- Hungary, Australia the US and Canada, and have spoken in most of the States and Provinces as well as Taiwan and various cities in Europe. I enjoy being surrounded by cultures other than my own. I enjoy my own as well -- but variety is indeed the spice of my life.

I keep busy -- and I love my life. I love meeting the people who come here to the west coast of Canada and stay in my B&B. I love traveling after the tourist season is over. And I love writing. My interests?? Music, especially opera, reading everything in print, and Writing. And walking on the beach and swimming. At one point I had hoped to swim in every major sea and ocean. I've realized that may not be possible in one lifetime -- but trying has been fun!

Inspiration for Deep Connections

Believe it or not, Deep Connections came from a dream. I was working full time and going to school full time. As I was lying in bed, I couldn’t sleep. When that happens, I think of possible stories or movies and drift off. From there the story of a couple who find themselves as soul mates just from a shock every time they touched came about. All from a dream.
That dream kept bugging me. I couldn’t get it out of my head. It would interrupt my studies. It would interrupt my work. A friend of mine suggested that I write it out to get it out of my head. So, I did. Then I found out that I was trapped and couldn’t get out.
The story started off as a simple romance. Before I knew it I wrote this scene where the main character was kidnapped by some dark, mysterious figure. Where did that come from? Suddenly, my story took a whole new turn. I then had to go back and rewrite every bit of it to bring this new aspect in. I wrote and rewrote probably a dozen or more times.
Each time I went through the story, I came up with a new scene and a new path for the story to take. Before I knew it, I wrote this one scene and stopped. I knew then that there had to be a sequel. I had to leave the reader hanging.
The romance was from a dream. The stalker was a trick the muse played on me and is still laughing about. The paranormal aspect spun from the connection the main couple had. I thought it would be great to know who you were meant to be with if you touched and you felt a literal spark. That would be so cool. Well, if you can do that surely there are other really cool things that you could do. That led into the shape shifter thing and the strange things the stalker could do. To be honest, it got really out of hand. All of a sudden, the characters were taking over and the book was nothing like it originally started. My characters took it down a whole new path, and an obedient writer follows their characters wherever they go.
From a dream to a character mutiny. That is where the inspiration for the story came from. I’m just a passenger on this trip.

 *Amazon*B&N
My Review:
Being brutally honest here, I liked the first book in this series but I wasn't in love with it. So you can imagine my surprise when I found myself actually loving this one.

So much happens. So much action, romance, danger, secrets and suspense this truly was like a whole new story. Maizel takes us on one heck of a ride that I admit, I didn't want to get off of.

“Rhode once told me long ago that love was an emotion that existed beyond the confines of the human condition. It could rise to the highest peaks, he said. Even out there in the heavens, love flew, soared, and spread between the stars.”

I think that quote fits this whole story perfectly. This was a story about love. About a love so pure it could do anything. Be anything. A love that could stand the test of time. A love that would not be forgotten or destroyed.

A love that could save and redeem them all.

I thought I loved Rhode in the first book. The little glimpses that we saw of him. I was wrong. I can say for sure now, I loved him in this book. He was so much more than those little glimpses showed us. So much love and depth and strength.

And Lenah. We really didn't get to see the real Lenah in the first book, we do in this one. The human Lenah. The one who cares and loves and makes some extraordinary sacrifices.

I don't want to give anything away but I do want to say that I am really really hoping there will be a third book. Because, simply put, there just has to be. There needs to be another. This can't be the end. I won't accept that, not with an ending like that one.

If you didn't love the first book, you will certainly love this one. If you did love the first book, then you are in for a bigger treat with this one. This one was worth the wait.

Very well done Ms. Maizel.
