My Thoughts and Review:

I first started this because I was looking for something different than the YA books I have been reading lately. I wanted something a little more adult and a good suspense/thriller sounded just like something I could use.

Plus, I really wanted a stand alone for a change, something that wasn't part of a trilogy and series. Don't get me wrong, I love my series and trilogies but it is nice once in awhile to just start a book and know it will have a definitely ending.

So I was surprised and if I am being honest, a little disappointed, to learn by the end of this one that it wasn't a stand alone. I didn't get that definite conclusion I was really craving. But, that was okay. I still got a really great story that kept me engrossed in the storyline and had an added supernatural element I wasn't expecting as well, which was a nice surprise.

This was a little slow for me. I wasn't too sure I loved Brenna. She was so wishy washy with her feelings for Slaton that it drove me a little nuts at times. I think that part of the story didn't have to drag out as much as it did. It got a little bit old after awhile and I just wanted them to move forward together already.

Having said that though, I did love Slaton and Brenna together when they were together and I enjoyed Brenna's interaction with Slaton's family. He had a great family that completely embraced her and took her in and made her one of their own. I really enjoyed that part of the story.

While this did seem to move a little slowly as far as the relationship side of it, I did really enjoy the mystery part of it even if some of it was a little predictable. Even though everything wasn't wrapped up nicely in this first installment, I did get enough answers to make me happy by the end and I would consider getting and reading the second book as well.

Overall it was a fun read and I did enjoy the storyline and writing. I give this one 3 Stars.

  2. I think the wishy washy behavior toward the romantic interest would drive me nuts. I hate the back and forth romance stuff. I'm glad you were still able to enjoy the book though!
