Title: Fractured Light
Author: rachel McClellanSeries: Book One in the Fractured Light Series
Published By; Sweetwater Books (Feb. 8, 2012)
Genre: YA Fantasy
Book Description:
I’m dying, I thought. This was unexpected and not at all how I envisioned my death. I was supposed to die gardening in a flowerbed as a hundred-year-old woman, not as a seventeen-year-old trapped in a lake beneath inches of ice. Llona Reese is used to living on the run. After the Vykens killed her parents, she knew they would eventually come for her too. She can’t take any chances. But when she starts to make friends for the first time in her life, she gets careless and lets her guard down. Big mistake. As an Aura, Llona can manipulate light and harness its energy. But if she wants to survive, Llona will have to defy the Auran Council and learn to use her power as a weapon against the Vyken whose sole desire is to take her light. Now she’s caught in something even bigger than she can understand, with a power she can’t wield, and no one she can trust, except, just maybe, a mysterious stranger. In this breathtaking and romantic adventure, Rachel McClellan delivers a truly mesmerizing story that will keep you guessing to the very end.

About the Author:
Rachel was born and raised in Idaho, a place secretly known for its supernatural creatures. When she's not in her writing lair, she's partying with her husband and four children. Her love for storytelling began as a child when the moon first possessed the night. For when the lights went out, her imagination painted a whole new world. And what a scary world it was…
My Thoughts and Review:
I was ready for something different and
not my normal when I started this one and I am so glad that that was
exactly what I got.
Having this one tend more towards the
fantasy genre (one I normally don't read a lot of) I definitely got
something new and even fun.
Ilona is an Aura. She has the ability
to control and manipulate light. And of course, with light, there
must be darkness. The darkness is in the form of Vykens, creatures
much like vampires that want to get to the lightness, that need the
lightness and therefore hunt those that hold it down and ultimately
drain them of it.
I really enjoyed Ilona, she was a good
character, I wasn't sure I was going to like her but by a few
chapters in I really did start to like her. I never felt that
connection I love to have with characters but I did like her
nonetheless and most importantly I liked that her character grew over
the course of the book. She went from being a shy hermit to someone
that put herself out there and took chances.
Really, this book has a lot of great
characters. I liked Jake her uncle (much better towards the end),
Matt, May, Tracey and Christian, especially Christian. Heck. I even
liked Mr. Steele. I liked how things unfolded, a little slowly at
times but nothing to lulling that made me want to start scanning the
story or put it down, in fact I ended up reading this in a single
sitting.
I don't want to go into too much detail
because that would give too much about the story line but this was an
interesting, entertaining read that kept me turning the pages, guessing what was going to happen next and most importantly, curious to find out more.
I would definitely pick up the next
book and see where the author takes it from there. I am hoping that
we get a little more romance and some more adventures. I really want
Ilona to explore what being an Aura means and be able to learn to
control her powers and make some much needed changes in The Council
aswell as continue taking charge and taking control of her life and
being able to live it the way she wants to instead of what is
expecting of her because of who and what she is.
I think this was a great first book in
a series and a series that I can see myself really getting into over
time.
