Book Description:
One kiss could be the last.
Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.
Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.
Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.
But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

I love Jennifer's writing, I have said this before about her work but there is just something about it that is so very alluring. It pulls you in and refuses to let go. The characters are always fun and most of all memorable. They are the type of protagonists that you keep thinking about long after their story is finished.
So it was no surprise that with her latest YA series, I too fell in love with it. With Layla, Zayne and Roth. I mean really, a good boy, a bad boy and a fierce girl, what's not to love? And best of all, this was unlike others out there right now.
This is all about the gargoyles and the demons. Good versus evil. I know what your thinking, you're scratching your head right now looking confused going “What?” But yep you read that right, I said gargoyles and demons.
I know, I know. Just trust me on this one, it completely works. All of it.
This was such a great read with something I completely wasn't expecting and once again Jennifer managed to capture my attention and hold it and have me completely in her thrall. I don't even know how she does it but she does.
I'm not going to get into too much detail because I don't want to give anything away but I really did love every minute I spent reading this story and the ending was a killer. Not a cliffhanger mind you, more like a delicious peek into what could be and hopefully will be in the next installment, which I will be eagerly awaiting.

One of my GR friends is reading this one right now and while it does sounds interesting I'm quite afraid how the three of them will work things out. Huh, maybe I should give it a try. I'm so glad you enjoyed it and it's great that JLA still manages to capture attention with her writing. Great review, Ali :)
ReplyDeleteThe three thing, really isn't as bad as it sounds. Not really a love triangle so much as..well, it just works. ;)
DeleteThis was on my list, but I thought it was NA and now I am a tad hesitant but I am glad you loved it. I love her writing too
ReplyDeleteDon't be hesitant it is pretty good!
DeleteJennifer's books usually work for me, but I'm not sure if I want to put myself through another love triangle. But... from your comment... it isn't as it seems? :) Perhaps I'll wait till the next book is released! I'm glad you enjoyed this overall. Lovely review as always!
ReplyDeleteYeah not quite as it seems but still sort of a triangle of feelings.
Deleteme! me! me! Every since I read her NA books I been wanting more of this author so I cannot wait to crack open a copy of this myself :D luckily I am almost done with some required reading before this one.
ReplyDeleteI hope you love it Lily but I have a feeling you will. ;)
DeleteI almost grabbed this but chickened out. I've been trying to minimize how many YA books I read lately. This sounds really good, though.
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you Christy, I think you would like this one though.
DeleteI have this on pre-order and I can't wait to read it. You review has me especially excited. I love all of Jennifer's books.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree about JLA's writing being so addictive. I am totally sick of love triangles, and still I was into this and couldn't stop reading it. Glad you had a good time with it too! Lovely review :-)
ReplyDeleteFunny how she can do that to you huh?
