Sometimes my TBR pile feels endless and while that is a good thing because hey, it means I always have something to read, it isn't always so good because it also means those series and trilogies I started (ahem) years ago, are still left undone. As in, I'm so behind I really need to finish them already and/or get caught up.
For the past couple of years I've done less ARCs and more books from my TBR pile, which has been amazing but still I somehow manage to start new series instead of finishing ones I've already started. Why is that? Am I crazy? Maybe.
So this year, as my one and only reading resolution, I've decided to try and concentrate on those series that really need some love.
I'm sort of embarrassed to even list all the book series I have started and want to finish, because let's face it, I don't want to finish them all because some of them, I think I've grown out of (Sookie Stackhouse series I'm looking at you) but others I do still really love and really do want to make a better effort at reading them.
So here is my tentative list of series I would really like to put a dent in this year. Some, like the In Death series would seriously take me years to catch up on but hey, I can try right?
1. The In Death Series by J.D. Robb. I adore this series but I am so very behind on it. I think there are over 40 books now in the series and I'm sadly on book 15 so there is probably no way I can get caught up but I can get closer right?
2. The Hollow series by Kim Harrison. I love this series and there are only 13 books and I'm on 9 but these books are seriously long and for whatever reason, love them or not, I can only take them in small doses (i.e. I usually can't read more than one or two at a time). But, I'm almost done so there is an end in sight.
3. The Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne. This series is so much fun and I love that it is a UF told in the male perspective. I'm only on book three but I love it so far, I even own all the other books. I just need to make time to get caught up.
3. The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. This was originally a trilogy with two novellas but I see on Goodreads now, it looks like after a long hiatus, the author has decided to make this trilogy into a six book series (The Immortal Instruments anyone?). Not sure how I feel about that but I do want to at least finish this last book and then see how I feel about the other afterward. I do love this series though, love triangle and all.
4 The Monster Haven series by R.L. Naquin. This series is such a fun little quirky series and it only has 6 books ( and a couple of novellas) and I'm on book 4 so really, it won't take me long to get there, I just have to remember to read it. Sounds weird I know but for some reason, it is never my go to series and I can't say why since I really do have so much fun with it.
5. The Dispossessed by Page Morgan. I started this trilogy last year and read book one and I really liked it. I would love to finish book two and three this year and be able to check it off the list.
6. I first read the Winner's Trilogy when I got an ARC of the first book and I loved it, I really did but for some reason, I never continued this series. How sad is that? I really would like to but I know I will have to re-read the first because it has been way too long since I've read it and I think that is what is stopping me from continuing it. How sad (and lazy!) is that?
So that isn't too bad right, if you don't take into account that I'm about 30 books behind on the In Death series? Ha! :P
What about you, have any series you really wish you would just finish already?
I really do want to read as many of these as I can this year so wish me luck!
I know how you feel! I want to finish some series aswell in 2018. I wish you the best of luck! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nina and to you as well!
DeleteI was just going through my series list on my blog yesterday and found that there are a ton of trilogies that I started but never finished, sometimes like book 3 oops >.<
ReplyDeleteI want to get caught up on The Dresden series this year as well as Kate Daniels, Charley Davidson, and a ton more
Those are all good ones Lily! Definitely get caught up on those plus, both the Charley and Kate series, end this year, so sad!
DeleteI'm excited to hear you say that Heidi, now I definitely have to start and finish it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get caught up.
ReplyDeleteThanks, me too!
DeleteOh I am so bad at series. I have a couple I would like to finish up but I am sure I will start more. Hope you get to all these!
ReplyDeleteOh I know I will start more as well LOL! I'm terrible.
DeleteI have been longing to start the In Death series but I am scared by the # of books LOL!
ReplyDeleteI started the Alphabet/Kinsey Millhone series last year and am slowing working my way through them (I'm on M now) and it's so fun to read a series like that!!
I remember reading book A years ago and liking it. I have no idea why I never continued. Hmm, I may have to look into it again although it makes me sad to know we will never get the last book now.
DeleteThis was actually one of my goals this year too. I have a shelf on Goodreads, and I'm up to twenty series I want to finish! Storm Siren, Noble Dead, Cassandra Palmer, and Sookie Stackhouse to name a few.
ReplyDeleteIt's so hard to get caught up sometimes, especially when I discover new ones or new to me, new ones. Good luck with all of your reading as well Molly!
DeleteEve and Roarke!!! Ahhh! I'm behind as well even though it's my favorite series. I think I'm at 35 maybe? New York to Dallas. Whatever is the next one. Good luck with your series!
ReplyDeleteAt least you are somewhat close! I do love them too as well. Have you read the Outlander series? For some reason they remind me of Claire and Jamie. ;)
DeleteIn Death books are great! I think I was up to 30 something when I stopped. And I really want to go back. One day. My tbr is pretty ridiculous. I find myself trying to buy books I already own and I do this a lot. I don't think I will ever get caught up. Hope you are going to get caught up. Me? I just keep starting more series.🤗
ReplyDeleteI do that all the time with books Lorna so you aren't alone! I know I will start new series as well, it's just inevitable. ;)
DeleteI definitely have to read The Hollows series, and I hope you get to finish the Dispossessed series and the Iron Druid series, they're two of my favourites. I have to catch up on the Shatter Me series as I only read the first book when it came out.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to try! Glad you like most of these as well. :D
DeleteOh I hate it when I get behind on series! Ugh. I forget all the things! I've heard a ton of good things about Hearne's series... I should get those.
ReplyDeleteI do sometimes as well, which sucks but most of theses I've at least read in the past few months so I think I should be okay. Hopefully. :P
DeleteI have a BILLION series I'm behind on, probably because I end up forgetting what happens in them when sequels come out. :/ Same with The Winner's Curse! I loved it, but for the reason I stated haven't read the sequels yet. T_T
ReplyDeleteI know! It is so hard to keep up sometimes.
DeleteIgnite me is super amazing! I really enjoyed that book
ReplyDeletexx
Hopefully I finish it soon!
DeleteI don't think I have too many series to FINISH but there are a lot of books that I want to read that are duologies or otherwise part of a series, like The Iron Druid books, etc. So I know once I start some of those (Finally), it'll take a bit to finish them.

It is hard to pick and choose series sometimes isn't it? SO glad you are caught up on all the ones you have started!
DeleteHey Ali! Happy 2018! What a great list, many of these are series I would love to start/ finish as well. I need to especially finish The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. I just need to finish the last book in The Dispossessed by Page Morgan which is an old favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by after my long hiatus as well.
Of course! It was so good seeing you!!
DeleteDon't feel embarrassed! I'm the worst reader when it comes to not finishing a series! Although, in our defense sometimes when there's a year or more in between books I lose interest! There are a few, though, that I keep up with. My favorites. I'm current on The Iron Druid Chronicles, Mercy Thompson, Alpha & Omega, Casey Duncan, Kate Daniels, Sweep in Peace, etc,. So I guess they just have to be really good to keep my attention to keep up, lol! :) I do want to try Kim Harrison. Heard good things. Great post! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think that might be a huge part of it as well. Good to know I'm not the only one. ;)
DeleteI read the first Shatter Me book years ago, and I didn't find it all that impressive. I may pick up the next book to see how I feel now. Not sure. I hope if you read these, you wind up loving them!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
DeleteOh dang, I didn't know the Shatter Me series has been extended to six books. That's a huge extension!
ReplyDeleteI know! I just hope it doesn't end up ruining the series kind of like Cassandra Claire Immortal Instruments series did (at least for me).
DeleteGood luck to you getting to all of these! You can totally do it. I need to try and catch up on the Stephanie Plum series sometime. I got so behind.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm behind on that one too by about four books but I do it on purpose because I save them for when I really need a good laugh!
DeleteI dont know how I feel about the new Shatter Me books. The series was great and ended great, I hope the author doesnt ruin that. Good luck with all these series.
ReplyDeleteThat hs me so worried as well. I guess we will have to wait and see what the early reviews say.
DeleteBlah, yeah, I'm afraid to even list mine. The Iron Druid series is on my too, though. I love it so much!
ReplyDeleteI do really like it. I just need to read more!
DeleteI love Iron Druid and The Hollows. I hope you're able to get through those two. I tried Sookie and just couldn't get into them. I only read the first two books. Some series I need to get back to: Cainsville by Kelley Armstrong, World of the Lupi by Eileen Wilks, Vamp City by Pamela Palmer, Moonbound Clan by Larissa Ione, Olivia Lawson, Techno-Shaman by M. Terry Green. I'm sure there are more and that doesn't even include the series I've yet to start. At least we will never run out of things to read. LOL
ReplyDeleteMelanie @ Hot Listens & Rabid Reads
That is so very true. There are always new and old but new to us series to try. Another reason I love books so much, your possibilities really do seem endless.
