Book Description:
Sixteen-year-old Zadie’s first mistake was telling the boy she liked she could bring her dead sister back to life. Her second mistake was actually doing it.
When Zadie accidentally messes with the Reaper’s Rite that should have claimed her sister Mara, things go horribly wrong. Mara isn’t the same anymore—Zadie isn’t even sure she’s completely human, and to top it off, a Reaper is determined to collect Mara’s soul no matter what. Now Zadie must figure out how to defeat her sister’s Reaper, or let Mara die … this time for good.
Every now and then I just need a YA paranormal read that is a fluff read. Something different, something fun, and something that will pull me out of my head and let me have a good time for a few short hours.
My Sister's Reaper gave me just that.
Imaginative, fun, mysterious, and well written, this truly was just what I was looking for. Nothing blow you away original but still with just the right amount of twists and fun that make the whole concept stand out and shine.
This was such a fun read perfect for a lazy afternoon out in the sun to let you escape for a few hours.
I'm glad this was what you were looking for even though it wasn't the most original, Ali. I haven't read a YA paranormal in ages. Whatever happened to the genre?!
ReplyDeleteLovely review!
It's still around but it seems contemporary is taking over I think.
Deleteyou're right, it's nice to have something like that from ime to time even if it's not more
ReplyDeleteYes. ;)
DeleteIn the end, that's all we could hope for in any books we pick up, isn't it? The ability to escape. I'm glad this one did the trick for you, Ali.
ReplyDeleteSo true Joy and thanks!
DeleteI actually met Dorothy at BEA13 and received an ARC. She is so nice and an overall great person. I really enjoyed it and the sequel. Glad you liked to too.
ReplyDeleteGood to know Tyler. I will definitely pick up the sequel I think. :)
DeleteI've been reading escapist books a lot recently, so I definitely know where you're coming from here. More than usually, really, I need to fight myself to read "substance" books. You know it's funny, but there are a few people in my life who don't think I'm a serious reader because I don't read they think are worthwhile.. Screw that! Any reading is worthwhile in my book, and so are our motivations and goals for reading what we read. Heh. Sorry for the ramble. I guess I needed to get that off my chest!
ReplyDeleteAny type of reading is worthwhile! I don't think it has to be a classic or a piece of literature or non-fiction, not at all. Reading is good regardless. ;)
DeleteThose fluff reads are most definitely needed at times. Glad it was a good fluffer. :D
ReplyDeleteDefinitely and thanks, they are nice once in a while.
DeleteSounds like the perfect escape read Ali :)
ReplyDeleteIt was. ;)
Deletesounds great for those afternoons ;)
ReplyDeleteHey you!! It's good to see you, how have you been?
DeleteDefinitely know what you mean by sometimes needing and wanting a read just like this, great review!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteI'm glad you got what you were looking for with this one. It does sound like a fun read. :D
ReplyDeleteIt was fun and really, that's all I could ask for. ;)
DeleteYA paranormal is tricky nowadays. I used to pick them up all the time, but when they all started to seem the same I gave up. Still, glad you enjoyed this one.
ReplyDeleteI hear ya. ;) It is hard to find more originality these days in almost any genre.
DeleteOh fluff reads are a must from time to time!
ReplyDeleteMost definitely! ;)
Deleteaa fluff I need some right now after some intense reading :) Thanks Kindlemom
ReplyDeleteYes, they are always good after a hard read. ;)
DeleteYeah, YOU're definitly right about that. Fluff can be just fine now and then! :)
ReplyDelete;)
DeleteI have been meaning to read this book. Nice to just relax and read. Everything does not have to be a huge epic read.
ReplyDeleteThat is so very true.
DeleteSo true, we all need something easy once in a while. Too much intense and serious reads can get exhausting
ReplyDeleteI've found lately that nice and easy really is the way to go after those intense reads. It's hard jumping from one to another.
DeleteGlad this was the perfect read for your lazy afternoon :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace!
DeleteThis sounds like an okay read but not one I'd be in a rush to read myself. Thanks for the review :)
ReplyDeleteYeah it isn't mind blowing or anything just still a good one. ;)
DeleteA fluffy one now and again really is nice :D I'm good with those that aren't AMAZING but just easy reads :D
ReplyDeleteMe too. :D
DeleteYes to fluffy and paranormal! Glad you enjoyed this one, And, I want to know what's at the top of the stairs, a Reaper? Eeep :)
ReplyDeleteI think so. ;)
DeleteIt sounds of cute but I think this is one I would skip. Thanks for sharing your review.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun read. ;)
DeleteI am all for escaping into reading and if I read the occasional fluff, that doesn't bother me in the slightest! Glad you had fun reading this one :)
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't me either and thanks! :D
