Review: Nocte by Courtney Cole

Title: Nocte
Author: Courtney Cole
Series: Book One in the Nocte Trilogy
Published By: Lakewood Press (November 3, 2014)
Source: Purchased
Genre: NA Thriller
My Rating: 4 Stars!

Book Description:
Save me and I'll save you...

My name is Calla Price. I’m eighteen years old, and I’m one half of a whole.
My other half-- my twin brother, my Finn-- is crazy.

I love him. More than life, more than anything. And even though I’m terrified he’ll suck me down with him, no one can save him but me.

I’m doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I’m drowning more and more each day. So I reach out for a lifeline.

Dare DuBray.

He’s my savior and my anti-Christ. His arms are where I feel safe, where I’m afraid, where I belong, where I’m lost. He will heal me, break me, love me and hate me.

He has the power to destroy me.

Maybe that’s ok. Because I can’t seem to save Finn and love Dare without everyone getting hurt.

Why? Because of a secret.

A secret I’m so busy trying to figure out, that I never see it coming.

You won’t either.

Wow, just, wow.

I have always loved Cole's work but this, this was undeniably her best novel yet.

This truly blew me away. It messed with my head and my heart and everything in between.

I can't even go into any detail but this was an amazing read and I want book two now, like now now, more so than I think I have ever wanted a second book to be here.

Calla, Finn, Dare, I love them all. This is one of those stories that makes it impossible to pick anything else up afterward because you need time to process and because most of all, whatever you pick up next won't even come close to comparing to it.

This was quite the roller coaster, twisty, turning, stomach heaving, ride and I soaked it up, threw my hands in the air, let go and enjoyed the rush.

The Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
~this meme was inspired in part by ~ In My Mailbox~
It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

I don't know about you guys but it has been one busy week!

I have made a little progress with my reading list from last week so far, which is always a nice, you can't go wrong with putting a dent in the TBR pile no matter how small it is.

While going through my ever growing list of books I want to read before the year is over, I of course, couldn't help thinking about those books that are releasing in the next few months that I am dying to get my hands on. Because of course I have a book buying problem and being the hoarder that I am, I am already salivating over those gorgeous cover, sequels, stand alone books, and new series I already want to add to my shelves.

I thought it would be fun to put together a top ten list of my most anticipated reads for winter 2015.

I love all of her books but it has been way too long since I read one so I am dying to get my hands on this and dive right in.

How can I resist not one but two of my most favorite authors? Well I can't of course which is why Never Never makes my top ten must have books for winter 2015.

I have loved this trilogy from the beginning and I can't wait for the conclusion. I was lucky enough to read the first two chapters of Ensnared and loved it! January 6th can't get here soon enough!

My love for Red Rising took me by surprise so I am on edge to see what Brown will come up with next in this much anticipated sequel.

Ally Carter is by far one of my most favorite YA authors. All her books are just so much fun and I love LOVE that I can share them with my girls. I am so excited she has a new series coming out!

I absolutely loved her Study Series so when I saw a new book set in the same world with the same characters (although this is labeled as a new series) I was super excited!

I love this author's work and I decided long ago that I would read anything and everything she writes.

This is another one of those sequels that I just can't wait to read. I am seriously hoping I like it every bit as much as the first.

Freaking loved the first book but it ended on a cliffhanger and totally messed with me so I already have this one preordered and have a feeling I will be reading it the day it releases.

Loved Boomerang so this is a must as well.

So there you have it, my top ten winter reads.

What books are you most looking forward to releasing in the next few months?

Review: Under Different Stars by Amy Bartol

Title: Under Different Stars
Author: Amy Bartol

Series: Book One in the Kricket Series
Published By: Amazon (December 17, 2014)
Source: ARC Copy Provided by the Publisher (in exchange for an honest review)
Genre: YA Fantasy/Sci Fi
My Rating: 4 Stars!

Book Description:
All she wants is a home, but can she find one...UNDER DIFFERENT STARS

Kricket Hollowell is normally not one to wish upon stars; she believes they’re rarely in her favor. Well versed at dodging caseworkers from Chicago’s foster care system, the past few years on her own have made Kricket an expert at the art of survival and blending in. With her 18th birthday fast approaching, she dreams of the day when she can stop running and find what her heart needs most: a home.

Trey Allairis hates Earth and doubts that anyone from his world can thrive here. What he’s learning of Kricket and her existence away from her true home only confirms his theory. But, when he and Kricket lie together under the stars of Ethar, counting them all may be easier than letting her go.

Kyon Ensin’s secrets number the stars; he knows more about Kricket's gifts than anyone and plans to possess her because of them. He also knows she’s more valuable than any fire in the night sky. He’ll move the heavens and align them all in order to make her his own.

When everything in their world can be broken, will Kricket rely upon love to save her under different stars?

This genre is not something I read a lot of which is bizarre because I love watching movies and shows with a sci fi theme but throw a book into the mix and more often than not, I won't even give it a second glance.

But when this showed up on my doorstep and I saw the gorgeous cover and the blurb, I knew I was making one of my rare exceptions and giving it a chance. Yes I can be petty and shallow like that.

But oh goodness how this story completely captured my attention and held it. I was completely under the author's spell and fascinated with the world and people she had created.

I loved feisty headstrong Kricket from the word hello and that love just grew as her character and story evolved.

Trey was just as fabulous, and Jax and Wayra stole the show. There is something to be said about secondary characters that you want to know and love every bit as much as the main characters.

I seriously went into this expecting nothing and getting so very much in return. I loved it and can't wait for book two to be out. I know there are so many more adventured for Trey, Kricket, Jax, and Wayra and I can't wait to take the journey with them.

Review: Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

Title: Clockwork Prince
Author: Cassandra Clare
Series: Book Two in the Infernal Devices Trilogy
Published By: Simon & Schuster (December 6, 2011)
Source: Purchased
Genre: YA Fantasy
My Rating: 4 Stars!

Book Description:
In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.

With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.

Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, but her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?

As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.

Okay I get it, I finally get why Will is such a big deal. Why there was ever any competition at all for Jem.

I won't lie, I didn't love him in book one, in fact I barely tolerated the cocky stubborn shadowhunter and numerous times I wanted to reach through the pages and give him a good smack on Tessa's behalf. But I hung in there and never lost hope that he would finally redeem himself some how and oh how he redeemed himself!

I get it. I truly do but oh how I hate love triangles but I must admit, if ever one was done right, if ever one was done to rip your heart out and truly not be able to love one more than the other, it was in Clockwork Prince.

Clare sure knows how to write them doesn't she?

I was constantly guessing and second guessing and thinking about this story even when I wasn't reading it.

It was hard to forget and even harder to ignore. I devoured it and then devoured it some more and still couldn't get enough.

Well done Ms. Clare, well done.

Review: Bonfire Night by Deanna Raybourn

Title: Bonfire Night
Author: Deanna Raybourn
Series: Novella (#5.7) in The Lady Julia Grey Series
Published By: Harlequin (November 3, 2014)
Source: ARC Copy Provided by the Publisher (in exchange for an honest review)
Genre: Historical Mystery/Paranormal
My Rating: 4 Stars!

Book Description:
Amateur sleuth Lady Julia Grey and her detective husband, Nicholas Brisbane, face their latest adventure in this novella by New York Times bestselling author Deanna Raybourn.

It's the autumn of 1890, and almost a year has passed since—much to their surprise—Lady Julia and Nicholas became parents. Just as the couple begins to adapt, a solicitor arrives with a strange bequest. Nicholas, it seems, has inherited a country house—but only if he and his family are in residence from All Hallows' Eve through Bonfire Night.

Neither Lady Julia nor Nicholas is likely to be put off by local legends of ghosts and witches, and the eerie noises and strange lights that flit from room to room simply intrigue them. Until a new lady's maid disappears, igniting a caper that will have explosive results…

I absolutely adore this series, in fact I would go as far as to say it is my favorite historical mystery series out there and sadly, while the author has been working on other books, while all equally as fabulous, this series has been put on hold with just a few splattering of novellas here and there to tide us over.

Thankfully all those novellas live up to the rest of the series and have all been equally as wonderful as the actual books and of course, Bonfire Night is no exception.

I just love Julia, Brisbane and all of the March family. They are quirky and daring and smart and yes, just a bit crazy but all so lovable that it really is hard to say goodbye to them after putting down the newest addition to the series and I have missed them all dearly.

So it was no surprise that as soon as I saw the release of this newest mystery I snatched it up immediately and dove right in.

Oh how I have missed the wild adventures and situations Julia gets herself in. The chaos and mayhem rival no other and the witty banter between all of the March clan and Brisbane truly make this series so much fun to read and relish.

I absolutely adored this latest release and I truly hope if we don't get another book, than the author at least continues to grace us with this amazing little novellas to hold us over and whet our appetite.
