Indie Book of the Week (Take Two!) and Giveaway: Solid by Shelley Workinger

This weeks Indie Book of the Week is another book that sadly sat in my TBR pile for months. I really hate it when a great book ends up sitting there for so long. It makes me sad to think of all the other fabulous books out there I have purchased or been asked to review that I haven't had the time to read yet. and of course since I am behind on my reads, this week I am featuring not one but two Indies.

At any rate, after reading this one, I just knew that I had to feature it as this weeks Indie Book of the Week.

Title: Solid
Author: Shelley Workinger
Series: Book One in the Solid Series
Published: July 9, 2010
Synopsis:
Clio Kaid may be 17 and just beginning the last summer before her senior year, but her life is anything but typical.

She's just discovered she was genetically altered before birth and is now headed to a top-secret Army campus to explore the surprising results of the experiment.

Follow Clio and the other teens as they develop fantastic super-abilities, forge new friendships, and find love as they search for answers.

My Thoughts and Review:

I admit that I am not a big sci-fi fan, which is weird because I watch a few shows that would be considered sc-fi but for whatever reason, reading them is usually just okay for me and not something I seek out.

So I was pleasantly surprised that Solid managed to hold my attention so much. And not only did it hold my attention, I found myself actually wanting to pick my kindle back up after having to set it down, to continue the story to see what happened next. And while this does have a slight sci fi feel to it, it isn't your typical YA sci fi read at all.

While everything wasn't revealed enough was to answer some of the really important questions and leave me wanting to read the next installment to find the answers to the ones that weren't answered.

I really felt like I got a feel for the characters personalities and surprisingly found myself liking all of them. I think in the end, they were a great team and worked well together, I think all of their different personalities balanced each other out and I would like to see where the author takes them next.

Clio was a strong character and I really liked Jack and thought they were a nice fit, there slight romance wasn't a big part of the story but it was a nice addition that helped spice up the storyline and give some sweeter moments to the story.

I liked cocky Garret and sweet Bliss and even slightly witchy Miranda. Amber was a great addition to the bunch as well and I can really see myself caring and feeling for these characters by the time the series is over.

The story flowed very nicely and was very well written. I look forward to reading Settling.

Overall I give this one 3.5 to 4 Stars!

  2. I didn't use to like sci fi but I have discovered quite a few that I really enjoyed so I'm more open minded. I'm glad that this one ended up being good!

  4. I have this one on my kindle, but yeah, it's one of many that are being neglected. I wish I could read really fast.. like 200-300 books a year fast.
