Indie Author (and Interview) of the Week..Out of Time by Monique Martin!!

This week I have the great pleasure in introducing Monique Martin as my choice of Indie Author of the week!
Monique has written an incredible Paranormal Romance that any lover of the genre will enjoy. It has time travel, mystery, love, vampires and so much more. I really enjoyed reading her book and can't wait for the next one out.

I was also lucky enough to be able to ask Monique some questions and below are her answers to those questions.

MGO (My Gulity Obsession): What made you decide to become an Indie Author?

Monique: "I really sort of backed into it. I’d made half-hearted attempts to get my book published. I came close a few times, but never quite made it all the way. Always a bridesmaid! I didn’t know anything about being a novelist or what it would take to get a book published. My training was in other disciplines. So, I’d pretty much decided Out of Time was going to live out its life in my desk drawer.
Then, I read an about Amazon’s Digital Publishing. It sounded so easy. Nothing could be that easy. But it was! Upload a book and Bob’s your uncle! In the beginning, I didn’t have any real hopes of being a great indie author. I just wanted to give my book a chance to do more than gather dust. It was only later that I realized I was on the crest of a wave. A wave of something really special and that I just might have what it takes to be a real author."

MGO: Did you always know that you wanted to write books?

Monique: "When I was very little I wrote embarrassingly bad one act plays (to torture my brother) and short murder mysteries about missing underwear and socks. After puberty, I started writing little romantic adventure. Later, I dreamt of writing for film and television and even went to USC’s film school. Real Life intervened (had to join the family business) and I lost my way for a few years. But, happily, I’m back to writing and don’t ever want to do anything else again. Sorry, family business!"

MGO: Have you always had an interest in the paranormal?

Monique: "Absolutely. I’ve always loved all things science fiction and fantasy related. They let your imagination run wild. Anything is possible. I love it! At heart, I’m still that little kid dreaming of weird and wonderful things."

MGO: What inspired you to write Out of Time?

Monique: "The idea initially came to me when I was watching a documentary about Al Capone and the Chicago mobs of the 1920. Boy howdy! Were they ruthless. Soulless even. That’s when I got the idea for an underworld run by the Underworld (demons). The plot and characters reshaped that idea some and it took a backseat to the romance, but that was the genesis of the kernel of the beginning of the idea. "

MGO: Who would win in a fight, a vampire, a witch or a werewolf? :P

Monique: "Oh, fun question! That depends entirely on the vampire, the witch and the werewolf. If you’ve got Dracula up against Sabrina and Oz from Buffy (no offense, Oz, I love you!), well, old Drac’s going to win. But, if you put Edward Cullen up against the Scarlet Witch (Marvel) and/or Fenrir Greyback, he’ll never sparkle again."

MGO: If you could go back in time to any place or date where and when would you pick?

Monique: "Oh, that’s a toughie. I LOVE history. There are so many times and places I’d love to go back to. I’d love to have seen the Continental Congress in action. I’ve love to see Hollywood in the 1940s. To see what Neil Armstrong saw when he stepped onto the moon. I can’t pick one. Don’t make me!"

MGO: Do you have any future books in the works?

Monique: "I do! I’m working on the sequel to Out of Time, When the Walls Fell, which continues Simon’s and Elizabeth’s adventures. This time they find they find themselves in 1906 San Francisco. (Not great timing.) I’m also working on a holiday short story, adapting one of my screenplays into a YA novel, a little literary fiction and helping my father with his Air Force memoirs. Phew! It’s a full plate. But I wouldn’t have it any other way."

Thank you so much Monique for agreeing to do this interview and for answering all of my questions! I can't wait for your next book to be released and for more of Simon and Elizabeth!!
