Author: Alyxandra Harvey
Series: Book 4 in the Drake Chronicles Series

Genre: YA Paranormal
My Rating: 4 Stars

Goodreads Description:
The Drakes and friends will be tested when an infestation of deadly vampires threatens Violet Hill.

Lucy's cousin Christabel has come to live in Violet Hill, and adjusting to the difference between life in a small mountain town and her home in the city is difficult enough. The strict curfew that Lucy's parents enforce is the worst part. Something really dangerous couldn't possibly happen in this tiny town.
But Christabel has noticed some mysterious happenings, and it seems like Lucy, her boyfriend Nicholas and his brother Connor are all in on a secret that Christabel doesn't understand—one that seems deadly serious. Although she won't admit it, Christabel would love to be in on any secret with Connor Drake. But when she is kidnapped by the ruthless Hel-Blar vampires, Christabel must cause more and more trouble in Violet Hill, Lucy and Connor finally fill Christabel in on all the undead drama. Together, they must find a way to stamp out the Hel-Blar for good.

My Review:
This was another wonderful book in the Drake Chronicles by Alyxandra Harvey.
This time we get not only two POVs but three, something a little different from her last three books.
The POV alternates between Lucy (who I just love), Lucy's cousin Christabel who has come to live with Lucy and her family and then the wonderful (and always yummy) Drake brother Connor.

I absolutely loved that we got another book through the POV of Lucy. She is so feisty and fierce and loyal and just down right loveable. She may be human but she can still kick a little vampire butt and hold her own. And I just adore her and Nicholas' relationship, they are one of my favorite couples in this series so I was so excited when I realized I would get more Lucy and Nick time.

We also got to finally get a glimpse into Connor, Quinn's twin. I really liked getting to know him better and like all Drake brothers, he was just perfect and swoon worthy.

Last we meet a new person, Christabel, Lucy's cousin. While I really liked Christabel, I couldn't help being a little disappointed that Connor's love interest in this book wasn't Chloe, Hunter's (from the last book) best friend. I was kind of holding out hope in the last book that there was a spark there since they had so much in common and lets face it, I adored Hunter from the last book. She was a kick butt heroine that got the job done and while we did get glimpses into her and Quinn's life and relationship, I couldn't help being a little sad that we didn't get some more of them as well.

I liked Christabel but she just wasn't one of my favorite characters in this book, which is a little surprising since we liked so much of the same stuff and I really could relate to her but for whatever reason, I just never felt a connection with her.

And Solange? Gah! Don't even get me started on her. I really don't like the turn the series seem to be taking with her. I really wanted to reach through the pages and just give her a good shake and wake her up a little.

And did I mention that (unforgivable) cliffhanger ending?
Harvey, you truly are cruel! How could you do that to your readers.
*sigh* It makes me even more anxious to find out what happens next in this truly great world that Harvey has created.

  1. I am not familiar with this series Ali. If it is full of cliffhangers then I may wait awhile as I Loathe them. Would you highly recommend?

  2. It is a good series! I started reading them a few weeks ago, the third one was my favorite.
This is the first one where I really felt there was a cliffhanger at the ending...a good one too (well good as in makes you want to read the next one now, kind of thing).
