Book Description:
Luke Price's life has always been about order, control, and acting tough on the outside. For Luke, meaningless relationships are a distraction-a way to tune out the twisted memories of his childhood. He desperately wishes he could forget his past, but it haunts him no matter what he does.

Violet Hayes has had a rough life. When she was young, she was left with no family and the memory of her parents' unsolved murders. She grew up in foster homes, living with irresponsible parents, drugs, and neglect, and trying to fight the painful memories of the night her parents were taken from her. But it's hard to forget when she never got closure-and she can't stop dreaming about what happened that tragic night. To make it through life, she keeps her distance from everyone and never allows herself to feel anything.

Then Violet meets Luke. The two clash instantly, yet they can't seem to stay away from each other. Although they fight it, they both start to open up and feel things they've never felt before. They discover just how similar they are. But they also discover something else: The past always catches up with you . . .

If there is one thing I have come to expect from Ms. Sorensen's work it is that I will get a beautiful story about two people that aren't just broken but are so heartbreakingly damaged that their story will make you cry and not just any cry but the bawl your eyes out ugly cry.

It will be a story about two people that are real. That are as perfect together as they are imperfect alone.

I don't know if I have ever met two more damaged people than I have in Violet and Luke. The prologue just about did me in. My heart was already breaking by that point, how in the world was I going to be able to read on?

But I did and their story was a beautiful one.

We got glimpses of Violet and Luke through Callie and Kayden's story (yay for seeing them in this one!!) and at the time, even though I knew that both of them had stories that needed to be told, I had no idea they would be the stories that they were. I had no idea they would rip my heart out and stomp on it, but I should have know because, after all, Sorensen's stories are good for that. She is a fabulous storyteller, she sucks you in, gets you attached and then BAM! She grabs you in her clutches and makes you feel things for her characters that should only be possible with real people, in real life.

Violet and Luke's stories are real, they are raw and they are honest. This story is one that isn't easy to read but well worth all those emotions it pours out of you.

We know their story isn't over by the time the book is done, there is still more to tell, more to learn and so much more to experience but wow was this amazing. Like most of Sorensen's books, this is one that will stay with you long after the last page has been turned and the story over.

  1. Oh man Ali. I don't know if I'm emotionally equipped to handle her books! This sounds bad, but I sometimes love getting my heart out and stomped on, I just finished a book where that happened. But I need long breaks in between to recover, and I feel like there just might not be a break long enough to help me recover from this story if the pain starts right at the prologue. *bites nails* Maybe one day I'll work up the courage:) Lovely review as always though!

  2. This sounds so emotionally draining, but I'm glad you thought it was worth it! I've read only one book by Jessica Sorensen before, and I'm not too sure if I'll be picking up any more anytime soon, but you have made me curious about this one now. I'm glad it managed to leave such an impact on you. Beautiful review! :)

  6. I'm so hesitant about books that are about 'broken' people. I just get frustrated with people that are broken or something. Or I'm just not up for the depression and emotion. I like emotion in my books and I don't mind crying but I guess I just am pretty cautious in what I pick up if it's an emotional kind of book.

  8. I got this for review also, but now I wonder if I can handle it. I love emotional reads, but they take so much out of me. It's good to know you think it is worth it though.
