Mini Review: The Grimoire of the Lamb

Title: Grimoire of the Lamb
Author: Kevin Hearne
Series: Prequel to the Iron Druid Chronicles
Published By: Del Ray (May 7, 2013)
Source: Purchased
Genre: Urban Fantasy
My Rating: 4 Stars!

Book Description:
There's nothing like an impromptu holiday to explore the birthplace of modern civilisation, but when Atticus and Oberon pursue a book-stealing Egyptian wizard - with a penchant for lamb - to the land of the pharaohs, they find themselves in hot, crocodile-infested water.

The trip takes an even nastier turn when they discover the true nature of the nefarious plot they've been drawn into. On the wrong side of the vengeful cat goddess Bast and chased by an unfathomable number of her yowling four-legged disciples, Atticus must find a way to appease or defeat Egypt's deadliest gods - before his grimoire-grabbing quarry uses them to turn him into mincemeat.

I picked this up after several recommendations from bloggers and friends that I trust completely for book recommendations. Can I just say that I am so glad that I did?

Not only is this told from a male point of view (which is sadly lacking in the urban fantasy genre) but hello, his side kick is a giant talking dog! What could be better than that?

Oh yeah, add in lots of humor, some snark, magic, demons, other paranormal beings and lots and lots of action and you have one kick butt series.

Okay, okay, this isn’t even the first book yet but rather a prequel to the series, but,  I can already tell this is one series that I don't want to miss out on. Atticus and Oberon are two characters I don't want to miss out on and if this is already this good and I am not even into the first book yet, I can only imagine how much I am going to love book one.

I can't wait to dive in and start it.

  2. No one can resist Oberon! Or was that sausages?! I bet it's the sausages. :D I'm sure he'd agree.
I really like this series, especially he first few installments. He does go into lecture mode a lot, which is sometimes a bit boring, but overall, they're loads of fun.

    1. I kind of noticed that from all the prequels I read but I think it will be fine, wouldn't be the first time too much info was dumped in an otherwise great series.

  9. You know I adore this series. Atticus is just awesome and Oberon is always excellent comic relief. I am so glad you finally picked it up. I have not read this prequel. I guess I better do that. I am all caught up on this series and eagerly awaiting book seven. I highly recommend the audiobooks if you can.

    1. I have thought about audio books more but I have found that I tend to zone them out if I am trying to listen to them and do something else at the same time (like house work) so I stopped listening to them. :(

  10. I do agree, the male pov seems to lack in paranormal series. I do enjoy them myself :)

  12. I didn't know there was a prequel to this series! I'm kind of burned out on novellas and short stories (I've read a few lately that just didn't satisfy), but this sounds like a nice introduction to a series all my blogger pals are raving about. I'll have to give this a try! Lovely review :-)
