Review: Hunting Grounds by Patricia Briggs

Title: Hunting Grounds
Author: Patricia Briggs
Series: Book Two in the Alpha & Omega Series
Published By: Ace (August 25, 2009)
Source: Purchased
Genre: Urban Fantasy
My Rating: 4 Stars

Book Description:
Anna Latham didn’t know how complicated life could be until she became a werewolf. And until she was mated to Charles Cornick, the son — and enforcer — of Bran, the leader of the North American werewolves, she didn’t know how dangerous it could be either...

Anna and Charles have just been enlisted to attend a summit to present Bran’s controversial proposition: that the wolves should finally reveal themselves to humans. But the most feared Alpha in Europe is dead set against the plan — and it seems like someone else might be too. When Anna is attacked by vampires using pack magic, the kind of power only werewolves should be able to draw on, Charles and Anna must combine their talents to hunt down whoever is behind it all — or risk losing everything...

It is funny how a series can sneak up on you and before you know it, you are completely wrapped up in it and in the lives and outcome of the characters.

I never thought this would be that series for me. I picked it up on a whim wanting something different, something fun, and something involving werewolves, something I really don't read all that often.

Before I knew it I was pretty hooked on the series. There was just something so alluring about Anna and Charles' relationship that I couldn't help myself. Not to mention the greatness that is Brigg's writing.

The worlds she creates are so tangible, so believable that you can't help but become immersed in them and so lost that you really don't want to find your way out again.

Anna and Charles have to be two of my most favorite wolves. I love seeing how far they have come since the prequel. How they are growing together and also individually.

Anna is getting stronger, not just as a wolf, but as a human. More confident. And her confidence is beautiful.

Charles too is growing and changing for the better as he is adapting to having Anna in his life and all that entails. I love that he has a past and one that isn't always pretty. I love that he is different from the others in almost every way imaginable.

Maybe I just really like this series.

Either way, this was a great addition to the series and I just loved it. Just the right amount of romance, action and mystery to keep me turning the pages and left wanting more.

  1. I'm so glad you like this series so much! It's nice that Anna isn't just growing into her supernatural side, but also developing more as a strong and confident woman in general

  2. I remember Carmen loving this one a lot, too! I haven't been much for werewolves, but Briggs' werewolves sound so good :) Plus, there's nothing better than a world that effortlessly pulls you in :D thanks for the reviewww!

  3. It's so true. Anna and Charles are just so addicting for some reason. It's crazy how much I love this series yet it seems so simple.

  4. I love it when characters grow throughout books in a series. I've had my eyes on this series for a while now, but I'm terrified of the length. I think this is a series better suited for the summer break! As soon as I get done with the Kate Daniels series, I'm jumping on this one.
    Lovely review, Ali!

    1. Her other series is the really long one, this one is only four books long so not too bad to catch up with. ;)

  5. So I pretty much wrote this exact same review - right down to how beautiful Anna's confidence is, for Fair Game. We're so on the same page with this series Ali! I'm reading Dead Heat now and loving it. An Anna and Charles binge is the best:)

  10. I know exactly what you mean and I even did a double take when I clicked on your blog today Ali cause this is so not what I'm used to seeing here, but I like you have had this happen to me too. The YA Sci-Fi Conquered Earth trilogy by J Barton Mitchell, is excellent, yeah you can't see me reading that either can you. :)

  11. I must be the only one who has never read a book by this author!
Every review I see makes me interested. The covers look fabulous.
Your review is great. IDK why I haven't read a book yet by her.
I think i don't know where to start. Sometimes if an author has a few series out i don't know where to begin. Im always scared of missing something if i don't start at book 1-series1.
lovely review <3 when I do finally read a book by PB I'll have you to thank :)

  13. I'm so mixed with this series, I'm not that attracted, I love Mercy but this one? So much less. I have read book 0.5 and 1 and I have book 2 for years but haven't read it. One day maybe.
