I thought it might be fun to do something a little different and talk about what we all do, well, most of us any ways. You know what I'm talking about, binge watching. Oh that evil Netflix and it's ways of luring us in with (what seems like) unlimited seasons of TV shows we've never watched before or old favorites we want to live all over again. You know what I'm talking about.
Those shows that suck up our time and completely hook us. We all do it and once in awhile, we even need it. Just to get away into fantasy land with no worries, no troubles, and just escape with mindless entertainment.
Summer is my favorite time of year to do this because even though I love being outside during the day and playing with my kids and reading, at night is always all about TV, especially staying up late into the night and then being able to actually sleep in in the mornings.
So with that said, what in the world are you planning on binge watching this summer?
It occurred to me (as all my favorite fall shows will be off the air soon), I need something new to watch. Either new to me or actually new to Netflix/Hulu so give it to me. What are your favorites, what do you plan on watching and most importantly, what do you recommend?
What I love about this blogging community is that not only do most of us love the same genres and authors, but we tend to love the same movies and shows too and it is so much fun to talk about all of them.
So with that being said, just to get an idea of what I do watch, here are a few of my favorites lately:
Supernatural. I mean come on, what is there not to love about Sam and Dean?
A new one for me but one I've been loving, Man in the High Castle. I love this era and to see this weird twist on what happened during it has been so much fun. Be warned for you moms out there, it is TV-MA because it does have language so be aware of that when having little ones in the room.
I'm so sad this show is over but I loved every single season of it and it was so much fun to watch. I definitely love the supernatural world, both in my books and my TV shows apparently.
This show was an unexpected one for me. I wasn't even sure I was going to watch it but so many people were and once I started I knew why, this freaking show pulls at the heart strings. I have yet to see an episode that didn't either make me cry or bring tears to my eyes.
We started watching Psych when it first aired and faithfully watched it every week. When Netflix showed it a couple of summers ago, we started watching it again with my kids and they too were hooked on it. I'm so sad it won't be on Netflix this summer and with the movie coming out in December, I'm hoping they will add it on there again. I love this show, it is just so funny. If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it, Shawn and Gus are the perfect example of a bro-romance that works.
I'm not caught up on this show yet so I will be watching it this summer to catch up but I thought I better throw it in the mix too in case some of you have something else close to it that you recommend. This is another one of my favorite time periods and I love it. I did try Downton Abbey and didn't like it, too soap opera-ish for me but any other recommendations I would absolutely love to have!
Some other shows I've watched and really like are: Sherlock, Bitten, Haven, Castle, Lizzy Borden, iZombie, The Walking Dead, American Housewife, Timeless, Charmed (still watching this one), Buffy (although I never finished this either), Gilmore Girls, Golden Girls (don't laugh, this show is so funny! I love Sophia). Hopefully that gives you an idea of what to recommend. ;)
If you like This Is Us you could try Parenthood for something similar. And I love Golden Girls so no laughing here!!!ReplyDelete
I've thought about watching that one, I will definitely try it. ;)Delete
I'm with Grace on Parenthood. That show is great. I'm also watching Handmaid's Tale, and it's terrifying, but really good. The Crown on Netflix is also good, if you want to try another historical. :)ReplyDelete
Christy was just talking about the Handmaiden, I definitely want to try that one. I started the Crown and then half way through the first episode I ended up having to stop for something, I should go back to it, I've heard it's really good as well. I completely forgot about it. ;)Delete
You're going to laugh Kindlemom, but I binge watch American Pickers on the History Channel ;-)ReplyDelete
When we had satellite we use to watch it all the time! No laughing here, I liked it too! ;)Delete
I don't really binge watch a whole lot. I watched all of Psych when was originally airing and I love it so much. I can't wait for the film.ReplyDelete
I'm really curious about The Main the High Castle!
The Man in the High Castle is really good, definitely try it, especially if you like that era, all the twists are so fun and terrifying!Delete
I started reading The Man In The High Castle but put it down for some reason. I need to get back into it.ReplyDelete
I didn't realize it was a book too, I will have to check it out.Delete
I've heard great things about The Man in High Castle. I want to try it. I really want to watch Season Two of Sense8. I kinda want to try Iron Fist, even though I've heard mixed reviews. I've been trying to find a show that will get me wanting to watch and I haven't found anything that has really wowed me.ReplyDelete
Melanie @ Hot Listens & Rabid Reads
I've seen Sense8 but didn't know if it was any good. I thought about Iron Fist too but then vetoed it, let me know if you do try it, if it's any good. ;)Delete
Iron Fist is okay. Better than Luke Cage. (But that was kinda slow.)Delete
I've heard Iron Fist was just okay. I think for now, I'll pass on those two and wait to see what the next season holds for them.Delete
Aaaah Poldark and Grimm. I want to rewatch Grimm sometime soon. It really was so fun.ReplyDelete
Aren't they the best? I miss Monroe!Delete
I love Poldark! I plan on watching the Handmaiden's Tale. Yeah the Winchester are good anytime!ReplyDelete
Yep any time is always a good time for Sam and Dean. ;)Delete
Ok, so three summer's ago my three boys basically set camp on the couch and never left. Halfway through the summer I created a challenge for them. If they went the rest of the summer without TV, kindles, or iPhones they got a sum of cash. (I know, but I was desperate.) Now we repeat this every summer. They can read, but it has to be a physical book. No internet, tv, nothing, unless it's a family activity. It's so tough at first, but we have come to embrace it as a family. No binge watching for us, but come fall. It's one. For me anyway :)ReplyDelete
That is a great idea! I don't have to worry about my girls though, they love to read and I do limit their TV time, I should probably limit mine too LOL!Delete
Hi, Ali! It's been such a long time. How are you doing? Anyway, I want to binge-watch This is Us as well and Poldark. I've heard good things. I also want to watch some good documentary and biographies.ReplyDelete
I hope you'll have a great summer ahead of you!
Happy watching. :)
Hey you! Definitely watch them both, they are so good but seriously be prepared to cry almost every single time you watch This is Us.Delete
I rarely binge watch anything anymore. I just can never find the time, and when I do have time I want to listen to audiobooks and cross stitch. I did end up watching This Is Us starting in January, and I loved it. That show made me cry buckets of tears especially the episode with Randall's dad toward the end.ReplyDelete
I usually only do in summer when it is really late or way too hot to be outside. I do try to read as much as I can but sometimes I need a break from reading adn a good binge watch does the trick for me. ;)Delete
Love Poldark! I binged watch the first and second season. Now I have to wait until October for Season 3. I loved Being Human (BBC version), Once Upon a Time and Luther (mystery series with Idris Elba).ReplyDelete
I'm almost done with the second season of Poldark and I know it will be a long wait for the next. :( I use to watch Once Upon but after the third season it got weird and we stopped watching it.Delete
I don't have Netflix or Hulu. I do have Cable and usually DVR a bunch of shows and watch them when I have time. I loved Grimm and was so sad to see it end.ReplyDelete
We use to do that when we had satellite as well Mary. ;) It was sad to see Grimm end, I do miss it.Delete
Lizzy Borden is one I want to try for sure. Have you tried Stranger Things?? I think you would love that one for sure. Also, The Americans is one I'm trying out so far and it's great but intense. I want to possibly watch Gilmore Girls with my daughters this Summer. :)ReplyDelete
I loved Stranger Things! I can't believe I forgot to include it. I can't wait for season two!Delete
Gilmore Girls is so fun, you are going to love Lorelei and Rory. ;)
I love binging Netflix! I've seen more than half of the shows you listed. (The sci-fi fantasy ones and Castle lol)ReplyDelete
I loved Firefly, Merlin, Once Upon A Time, Doctor Who, Heroes (but I think they removed it) Vampire Diaries (the first couple seasons, and it's spin off The Originals), Agents of SHEILD, The Event, Legends of Tomorrow...
I could go on haha. Good luck finding your next show!
Thanks for all the recs, I've watched many of them too LOL! I never finished TVD, I didn't like it much after Elena's character left the show and for some reason I just stopped watching The Originals, no idea why.Delete
Great post! I don't yet have plans on binging anything, but I do want to check out the second season of Fargo. And then its Game of Thrones Time. Da dun dadada dun dadada dun dadada dun dada duuuuun.....ReplyDelete
I've debated watching that so many times and haven't for some reason.Delete
I loved The Crown, Stranger Things, The Fall, Sherlock(They added the new season but it's only 3episides.). I found Scandal from NetFlix and wouldn't miss it now. Being Human(the American version)Bosch on Amazon, Penny Dreadful, and my new favorite Orphan Black. So good! Oh and the Santa Clarita Diet. So funny. I hope I spelled that right.ReplyDelete
Those all sound good! I will check them out for sure, I've heard of some of them but not all of them and I love Sherlock! I wish it were longer, even if the episodes are long, I wish there were more of them.Delete
I'm a Haven and Poldark fan. The Man in the High Castle looks good.ReplyDelete
I bet you would like it as well. ;)Delete
They seem to cancel every show I love, like Time After Time. So I plan to catch up on the series dvds I bought; Sons of Anarchy, Reign, Once Upon a Time. There's also a few shows on Acorn TV I'm hoping to try.ReplyDelete
I hate it when that happens, it's so sad. :( I hope you find something new to watch as well!Delete
I stopped SUpernatural and Grimm a while ago I confess and I haven't tried the othersReplyDelete
It happens, I've done the same thing with other series. Sometimes you just get tired of them or they lose something. I do love both of those though but I've totally done it with others. ;)Delete
I haven't tried Supernatural yet as I'm planning to start with the book first, for this summer, I guess I'll binge watch some animes hehe.ReplyDelete
It's funny because there are some episodes that feature the book, I thought it was kind of fun. ;) I hope you enjoy the books!Delete
Definitely, Supernatural. I love it so...ReplyDelete
Anna from elements of emaginette
It is pretty hard not to love Sam, Dean. Cass, and even Crowley isn't it?Delete
I heard Man in the High Castle was good. I just finished Travelers on Netflix and Glitch (an Australian show)- I think I liked travelers better of the two. And I'm looking forward to season 3 of Bloodline next week.ReplyDelete
I haven't seen Bloodline or Travelers, I'll look them up. ;)Delete
I want to try Poldark because I love period series and I also want to check out the Handmaid's Tale in Hulu too. I heard it's good.ReplyDelete
I started it and it is so good but so freaking creepy too!Delete
I need to catch up on Supernatural. And This Is Us completely caught me by surprise too. I wasn't going to watch it, but I saw everyone on twitter making a huge deal about the ending of the first episode when it aired, so I wanted to see what they were talking about. Yup, I was hooked.ReplyDelete
That was why I started it too Christy. I have to watch them in small doses because they always knock me off my feet. I still have the last two to watch.Delete
I started watching This is US and it is amazing. I was so sad after the 2nd episode I was like :O oh man.ReplyDelete
Man in the High Castle looks interesting! my husband would prob love that one as well
The history buff in me loves The Man in the High Castle, I can't get enough of it!Delete
Yep, I've been adding these addictions to my blog as well. Into the Badlands and Sense8 are good on Netflix, but both need to be watched from the beginning. Sense8 took me a few eps, but now I'm addicted. I'm also binging on Supernatural!ReplyDelete
Woo hoo for another Sup fan, the Winchesters are the greatest. ;) I might have to check out Sense8, I looked at it today but I haven't watched it yet, it sounds really interesting and Netflix says it is a 97% match with what I watch LOL!Delete
I need to get back on the Supernatural bandwagon! I started binge watching last summer but haven't had a chance to finish (same with Psych)! I've heard great things about This Is Us (and Parenthood, haha).ReplyDelete
They are all good and I've heard good things about Parenthood too, I definitely want to try it this summer.Delete
