Review: All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill

Title: All Our Yesterdays

Author: Cristin Terrill
Series: Planned Duology
Published By: Disney-Hyperion (September 3, 2013)
Source: ARC Copy Provided by the Publisher (in exchange for an honest review)
Genre: YA Fantasy/Time Travel
My Rating: 4.5 Stars!!

Book Description:
"You have to kill him." Imprisoned in the heart of a secret military base, Em has nothing except the voice of the boy in the cell next door and the list of instructions she finds taped inside the drain.

Only Em can complete the final instruction. She’s tried everything to prevent the creation of a time machine that will tear the world apart. She holds the proof: a list she has never seen before, written in her own hand. Each failed attempt in the past has led her to the same terrible present—imprisoned and tortured by a sadistic man called the doctor while war rages outside.

Marina has loved her best friend James since the day he moved next door when they were children. A gorgeous, introverted science prodigy from one of America’s most famous families, James finally seems to be seeing Marina in a new way, too. But on one disastrous night, James’s life crumbles apart, and with it, Marina’s hopes for their future. Now someone is trying to kill him. Marina will protect James, no matter what. Even if it means opening her eyes to a truth so terrible that she may not survive it. At least not as the girl she once was.

All Our Yesterdays is a wrenching, brilliantly plotted story of fierce love, unthinkable sacrifice, and the infinite implications of our every choice.

My Thoughts and Review:
It is clear from the very beginning that Terrill plans to take us on one heck of a journey, a journey through space and time itself. A journey that will leave your mind reeling and you on the edge of your seat with anticipation.

One so filled with complexities and a very science driven plot constantly tested and redefined that it will leave your head spinning and your heart pounding. As the unthinkable and the unimaginable come together to form one explosive ending.

The fact that this is Terrill's debut novel with leave you speechless and questioning the sincerity of it. I am constantly amazed at the talent that has appeared in the last year with stellar debut novels that leave you wanting more and wondering where the author has been hiding all this time.

While the main character's identities are not hidden so much as they are hinted at, the real twists are in the events that lead up to those characters situations and lives changing as much as they have. To those characters becoming someone totally different than what they were when their story first started.

Terrill's debut novel is one that you don't want to miss. An action packed roller coaster ride that will leave you high from the twists and turns and have your stomach dropping from the downward spiral of emotions. Love, anger, friendship, betrayal and redemption are all apart of Em, Marina, Finn, James and the doctor's lives.

This is one book that you will not want to put down from the very first page and will leave you feeling bereft and at a loss as what to read next.

  6. My review for this is scheduled for next week. I really enjoyed it too, but I think I've read and watched so much time travel that it's super easy for me to predict and figure it all out, so there's rarely any real surprise in it for me anymore. :( This was still very well done, though. I don't think I've been disappointed with this publisher yet.
