Book Description:
Rock star drummer Bishop Riley doesn't have a drug problem. Celebrities—especially ones suffering from anxiety—just need a little help taking the edge off sometimes. After downing a few too many pills, Bishop wakes up in the hospital facing an intervention. If he wants to stay in the band, he’ll have to detox while under house arrest in Seldon, Alaska.

Hockey player Penny Jones can't imagine a life outside of Seldon. Though she has tons of scholarship offers to all the best schools, the last thing she wants is to leave. Who'll take care of her absentminded gramps? Not her mother, who can’t even be bothered to come home from work, let alone deal with their new tenants next door.

Penny’s not interested in dealing with Bishop’s crappy attitude, and Bishop’s too busy sneaking pills to care. Until he starts hanging out with Gramps and begins to see what he’s been missing. If Bishop wants a chance with the fiery girl next door, he’ll have to admit he has a problem and kick it. Too bad addiction is hard to kick…and Bishop’s about to run out of time.

My Thoughts and Review:
Ms. Perry and Ms. Dawn are two authors I already love on their own but together in one book? Even better. This duo is pretty dynamite.

This isn't your typical New Adult love story, far from it in fact. If you are looking for straight up romance you have come to the wrong place. However, if you are looking for one heck of a coming of age story all about discovering who you are and holding on to it even when that may mean changing everything about your life as you know it, then this is the story for you.

This is so much more than about two people finding their way in life. In fact, Penny pretty much has it all figured out. That girl is one tough chick. She knows what she wants out of life and she goes after it. She isn't someone to mess with. The girl has serious skills on the ice. She is a little bit fierce, a whole lot strong, and a little snarky at times. And she has no idea that when Bishop walks into her life that everything she know will change.

Bishop on the other hand really has nothing figured out. He's grouchy, he's hard to put up with and he has some serious anxiety issues that are starting to affect not only his career but his life as well. Not to mention the little problem he has with popping pills. The boy is a hot mess.

These two coming together couldn't be more weird and wonderful at the same time and this story has Dawn and Perry written all over it and I loved every minute of it.

Gramps is just amazing and everyone should have someone like him in there lives. He was everything a good grandparent (and parent) should be and I fell in love with his character.

This story really is more than meets the eye and it just goes to show that sometimes what we don't know we want, what we don't even know that we need, can be right in front of us. It can be something we never would have imagined. The complete opposite of everything we ever pictured in our life and yet, somehow it is exactly what we needed, when we needed it and that is the real story of Bishop and Penny.

  1. These are two fab authors so I'm sure I will love this! I love coming of age stories and when two characters of sort of opposite personality collide. Penny being someone who knows what she wants and Bishop not knowing and being a bit of a mess.

  2. Hmmmm. Not straight up romance huh? I just have one question then: Does it have an HEA? I can deal with all sorts of ups and downs, in fact I like that in my stories, but I need that ending that assures me these characters are going to find some sort of happiness. It doesn't have to be in the immediate future, but I need a glimpse of it! I do need to read something by these two, I've yet to do so. I fail.

  8. I haven't tried anything by Nyrae Dawn before, but I've enjoyed the few Jolene Perry books that I've read in the past, so I guess I'm curious about this one. Glad you liked it overall! Amazing review. :)

  9. Glad to hear there is a HEA in this one. :-) It's interesting that you say these two coming together is weird and wonderful, because when I read the synopsis I thought, there's a weird couple. :-) Sounds like a great story though!
