Author Interview: J. Sterling and Her New Book, The Perfect Game!

I am so excited to have author J. Sterling here today with a very special interview.
I have meet a few authors along the way since becoming a blogger and it never ceases to amaze me how sweet they are and down to earth. J. is no exception. I have had so much fun talking to her over the past few weeks, she is a complete sweetheart.

For those of you that may not know, she is the YA/New Adult author of three books.

In Dreams, Chance Encounters and her newest release, The Perfect Game.

Synopsis:
When Katherine Johns starts dreaming about a boy she doesn't know, her college roommate Taylor is determined to find him. Convinced he must exist, Taylor is relentless... until she finds out exactly WHO the mysterious stranger really is.

The realization rocks the girls to their core and sends them down a path of unimaginable heartbreak as they learn to navigate their new reality.

Follow Katherine & Taylor's journey through love, friendship and tragedy in the first book of this emotionally captivating Young Adult series.

Synopsis:

Caroline Weber was a normal girl who thought she had her life figured out. After graduating from college in New York, she moved to San Francisco with her boyfriend, Clay. Everything in her life felt perfect. There wasn't anything she would change...

...until she met Jackson Parks.

Is it possible that a chance meeting with a stranger can make you question EVERYTHING you thought you wanted? Caroline tries to carry on with her life as if nothing has changed...but the truth is, nothing can ever be the same.
Chance Encounters is an emotional love story about trusting and following your heart, even when it's leading you down a difficult path.
Sometimes other hearts have to break in order to keep yours intact.

Synopsis:
He's a game she never intended to play.
And she's the game changer he never knew he needed.

The Perfect Game tells the story of college juniors, Cassie Andrews & Jack Carter. When Cassie meets rising baseball hopeful Jack, she is determined to steer clear of him and his typical cocky attitude. But Jack has other things on his mind... like getting Cassie to give him the time of day.

They're both damaged, filled with mistrust and guarded before they find one another (and themselves) in this emotional journey about love and forgiveness. Strap yourselves for a ride that will not only break your heart, but put it back together.

Sometimes life gets ugly before it gets beautiful...

About the Author:
I got fired from my last job. It's true. I know you're sitting there thinking "Jenn, how could anyone in their right mind fire someone as amazing and awesome as you???" And i'd love to give you a good reason, but the truth is- being this awesome is clearly very scary to other less awesome people.
So I said screw them and started writing my first book. And you know what I realized? Writing books that mean something to me is a million times better than working for my ass off for someone who doesn't really care about anything other than the bottom line.   My soul feels more satisfied.
My heart, more full.
So thank you for reading, loving and recommending the stories I write.
I think you're awesome- and not only am I not scared of other awesome people, I want them on my team! LET'S GO TEAM AWESOME!!!! <3 <3

Author Interview:

MGO: Where do you get your ideas for your stories?

J.: ALL of my books are inspired by very real events/feelings/situations in my life. So for the most part, they all stem from things I know and have lived through.

MGO: Did you always know that you wanted to be a writer?
J.: NOT.AT.ALL.  I mean, I cannot emphasize that enough. I got fired and immediately HAD to buy a laptop and I sat down and started writing the story i'd always wanted to tell (the dream from In Dreams).  I never realized how strongly I would be pulled to write once I started. I used to joke all the time about "who the hell writes only 1 book???" because I thought that was all I had in my mind creatively. I.was.wrong.  lol

MGO: Who would you say has been your favorite character to write about to date?
J.: ooooh, that's hard. I sort of want to say Austen (from In Dreams), which is weird because he's developed so little in the first book... but the inspiration for him is so intertwined with my being that when I think about what character I love the most- he always comes to mind. Maybe because the "real" Austen is what inspired me to write in the first place. He is the very inspiration for this whole journey i'm home. I think there's something very special about that.

MGO: I am always curious about what authors like to read in their spare time (if they have any!). Who is your favorite author?
J.: It is SO FREAKING HARD for me to find time to read. I am so behind on books and I literally have a HUGE LIST of books I'm dying to get too (like CJ Roberts, Tara Sivec, SC Stephens). I try to read a lot of what I write- so, YA/New Adult books by self published authors are what i'm into for the most part. I don't know that I have an absolutely favorite author, but I do have a few that I love the way they weave their stories. Tarryn Fisher, Rebecca Donovan, Michelle Warren, Rachel Higginson to name a few. Their books are all different, but they grip me with their words.

MGO: What made you decide to write in the genre that you do?
J.: Seriously? I am so freaking immature. And I didn't want to write books with throbbing members in them. lol  So basically, I wanted to write the way I think, the way I speak, and I figured that teenagers and young adults were more my speed. It was never a question for me.

MGO: What are you currently working on?
J.: Keeping my sanity. LOL I really need to finish the follow up to In Dreams, so I should probably be working on that. I have 3 or 4 books currently in various stages of being written. I think most authors are like that. But right this second, i've been working on interacting with my readers, giving attention to the people who are supporting me right now- and NOT writing anything.  Just for this moment.  I'm trying to enjoy what is happening with The Perfect Game.  :)

MGO: Tell us 5 things about you that we might not know.

J.: um.
I very rarely get embarassed.
I like to say shocking things because they're funny and people's reactions make me laugh.
My ass is literally the size of Brooklyn. Literally.
I used to DJ at my college radio station
I love love love cheesy pop music.  lol

MGO: Thank you so much for being here today and letting us get to know you a little better!!

  1. Loved that interview!!!!!
In Dreams sounds particularly good to me because I have had dreams about people that were real but I didn't know. I'm curious how that one goes. Its been on my radar for awhile but you know how goes.... that TBR is just too enormous.
