Book Description:

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life.

My Thoughts and Review:
What is it about an infuriating cocky bad boy that always draws me in, every. Single.Time?

Whatever it is, I don't want it to stop because the truth is, they are yummy and Torin is no exception!

This is the first book by Walters I have read and oh my! She did not disappoint. Not only did she give me a fantastic read but one that is completely appropriate. By appropriate I mean, I got the intensity of sexual tension without the naughtiness but it in no way lessened the story. In fact it just made it all the much more intense and hot and...and, I loved it! Walters knows how to write a story.

I was hooked after the first few pages. Finally something refreshing in the YA genre without being inappropriate for the age group. And that fact that it also has mythology in it didn't hurt it either. One of my all time loves is mythology but it is hard to find something new and original in the genre without being cheesy or too over the top and Walters managed to balance it all brilliantly.

She gives us a fresh new look into old myths with an added dose of mystery, a great cast of very loveable characters and a great romance as well that doesn't over power the original storyline and that ending? What ending was pure torture! I can NOT wait to see where she takes this story next.

I completely loved Raine, Cora, Torin and Eirik, heck I even enjoyed the “bad guys”.

I wish I could tell you more about everything that transpired in this story but I really can't. I want you to be able to enjoy this one for yourself without any spoilers from me. So much happens, so much is revealed, so much is said and in some cases unsaid that this one really will leave you thinking long and hard by the end about the outcome of all the characters and about what could possibly be in store for them next.

Just trust me on this one and pick it up and give it a try. I really don't think you will be disappointed by it at all. Yes there is a slight love triangle, yes there are mean girls and yes there is an insta connection (not love, but connection) and yes, there is even a dreaded cliff hanger at the end (but nothing too terrible!) but it will all be worth it. This isn't your typical anything and well worth the time.

  1. You said cocky bad boy and I was sold Ali! So clearly I'm right there with you on the "I love infuriating arrogant bad boys" train. WIN. I haven't heard of this book before, but I think it's safe to say I'm super excited to meet Torin! I'm a little nervous about the ending you mention though, when does book 2 come out?

  14. I really loved this book and I always go for the infuriating yet incredibly yummy cocky bad boys. You couldn't have described the way the sexual tension was portrayed any better - definitely intense, but without the naughty factor. Then the ending - I am dying for the next book.
