By Ripley Patton

Genre: Paranormal Thriller
Age category: Young Adult

Blurb:
Seventeen-year-old Olivia Black has a rare birth defect known as Psyche Sans Soma, or PSS. Instead of a right hand made of flesh and blood, she was born with a hand made of ethereal energy.

How does Olivia handle being the girl with the ghost hand? Well, she's a little bit morbid and a whole lot snarky.

Her mother thinks her obsession with death, black clothing, and the local cemetery is a bid for attention. But when Marcus, the new guy in Olivia's calculus class, stares at her like she's a freak, Olivia doesn't like it. And when her hand goes rogue, doing things she never imagined possible, Olivia finds herself running for her life with Marcus from a group of men bent on taking the power of her hand for their own nefarious purposes.

Olivia Black is back.

Only this time she's not the one in need of rescue.

Samantha James, rich, popular, and an award-winning composer at age seventeen, is the next target on the CAMFers' list. In order to convince Samantha to come with them, Olivia and Passion must pose as cousins, blend into the most affluent high school in Indianapolis, and infiltrate a mysterious cult known as The Hold.

Olivia doesn't expect it to be easy, even with the PSS guys backing them up. But what she discovers over the course of the mission will call into question everything she ever believed about herself, her family, and especially about Marcus, the guy she is undoubtedly falling in love with.

So much happened in book two, in fact so much so that I felt I needed to reread it so I could remember everything. I knew I was nervous about what was in store for Olivia, Marcus and the gang and I just knew that after the cliffhanger ending of Ghost Hold that I was going to be in for quite the ride.

I have loved this unique well written story from the very first page and was anxious to see how it would all end. Endings can be so bittersweet. Except, this wasn't an ending like I thought, not even close in fact, it was a beginning.

So much happens in this that I really don't even know where to being. This had a slightly different feel than the others books, mainly because it was told in multiple point of views which was both great and frustrating at the same time.

It was nice getting into Passion's head it was also frustrating because I wanted more of Olivia and I was dying to know more about Marcus so when Marcus' POV came I was super excited but also somewhat sad. I don't think this story ever went in the direction I thought it would go. It was constantly surprising me and at times made me feel like I was a yoyo with the ups and downs of it all (in a good way, I assure you).

I honestly have no clue where the next book will lead but where ever that may be, I will follow because I need to know how it all comes together and where it goes from here.

  1. Glad this series is still continuing to be strong for you Ali! Doesn't sound like this installment suffered from any type of middle book syndrome which is always a good thing. Hope the next one is even better!

  2. Good on you for re-reading book 2 before tackling this one. I usually plan on doing that, but time always seems to have other plans. After checking out your review I'm kinda curious about an ending that's actually a beginning though. Interesting!

  10. That would be so weird to have a hand like that. Sounds like a great series.

  11. Cool series! Wasn't there a movie called Idle Hands in the 90s where a guy had a hand he couldn't control? Seems like Jessica Alba was in it. This sounds like a MUCH better take on that concept!
