Mini Review: My Sister's Reaper by Dorothy Dreyer

Title: My Sister's Reaper
Author: Dorothy Dreyer
Series: Book One in the Reaper's Rite Series
Published By: Month9Books (May 29, 2013)
Source: Purchased
Genre: YA Fantasy
My Rating: 3 Stars

Book Description:
Sixteen-year-old Zadie’s first mistake was telling the boy she liked she could bring her dead sister back to life. Her second mistake was actually doing it.

When Zadie accidentally messes with the Reaper’s Rite that should have claimed her sister Mara, things go horribly wrong. Mara isn’t the same anymore—Zadie isn’t even sure she’s completely human, and to top it off, a Reaper is determined to collect Mara’s soul no matter what. Now Zadie must figure out how to defeat her sister’s Reaper, or let Mara die … this time for good.

Every now and then I just need a YA paranormal read that is a fluff read. Something different, something fun, and something that will pull me out of my head and let me have a good time for a few short hours.

My Sister's Reaper gave me just that.

Imaginative, fun, mysterious, and well written, this truly was just what I was looking for. Nothing blow you away original but still with just the right amount of twists and fun that make the whole concept stand out and shine.

This was such a fun read perfect for a lazy afternoon out in the sun to let you escape for a few hours.

  1. I'm glad this was what you were looking for even though it wasn't the most original, Ali. I haven't read a YA paranormal in ages. Whatever happened to the genre?!
    Lovely review!

  3. In the end, that's all we could hope for in any books we pick up, isn't it? The ability to escape. I'm glad this one did the trick for you, Ali.

  5. I've been reading escapist books a lot recently, so I definitely know where you're coming from here. More than usually, really, I need to fight myself to read "substance" books. You know it's funny, but there are a few people in my life who don't think I'm a serious reader because I don't read they think are worthwhile.. Screw that! Any reading is worthwhile in my book, and so are our motivations and goals for reading what we read. Heh. Sorry for the ramble. I guess I needed to get that off my chest!

    1. Any type of reading is worthwhile! I don't think it has to be a classic or a piece of literature or non-fiction, not at all. Reading is good regardless. ;)

  10. YA paranormal is tricky nowadays. I used to pick them up all the time, but when they all started to seem the same I gave up. Still, glad you enjoyed this one.

  15. So true, we all need something easy once in a while. Too much intense and serious reads can get exhausting
