Summer Shows and What to Watch

I thought it would be fun to do something a bit different today. Most of us, while avid readers are also avid Netflix addicts and with summer literally right around the corner I thought it would be fun to see what everyone plans on binge watching this summer. Any big plans?

Plus, okay in all honesty, with all my favorite fall shows going on hiatus for a few months, I desperately need something to watch so I want to hear what your favorites are and what you recommend as well as what you will be binge watching this summer.

As much as I love reading, I sometimes need a good TV show to get me out of a slump or just because I need a *gasp* break from reading for a bit. So bring on the recs!

First though, here are some of my most favorite shows I watch and those that I've already binge watched on Netflix or Hulu and absolutely loved.

One of my most favorite TV shows to date is Supernatural. I only discovered this series about two years ago and after watching the first season seriously couldn't figure out what the big deal was. I mean, I liked it but I wasn't in love...yet. It wasn't until season two that I was completely hooked.  It only took me a summer (I should be embarrassed by this but I'm not) to catch up with it (8 seasons at the time) and eagerly await each new episode each week. I hate it when it goes on hiatus because I truly do miss Sam and Dean and their witty one liners.

I started watching this show on a fluke and while it can be cheesy I absolutely love it. There is just something about it.

Seriously zombies were never my thing, that is until I started watching this show and as gross as it can be (seriously, some of the scenes turn by stomach) I am weirdly fascinated by it and completely hooked. It is probably the grossest show I watch.

I'm definitely starting to see a theme here with my show watching. What can I say, I love the paranormal side of things!

I've had fun with this TV series but with the ending to the latest season, I'm not sure I will be continuing with it. I just don't think it will be the same (fans know what I am talking about).

And my latest and newest TV series that I was hooked one is this one. I can't believe how I love the sass that comes out of this man's mouth.

This series is only on it's second season but I just started watching it and am weirdly drawn to it. There is just something about it that I like. I won't lie, it can be downright cheesy at times but still, it keeps me watching.

Sadly this series was just cancelled after 8 seasons but I've been a fan of it since the beginning. Nathan Fillion is so freaking funny and I just adored his character on this show. I'm sad to see it over but happy with the way it ended.

So yeah, there you have it. Those are the shows that I'm currently watching and loving that are still on air.

Here are a few others that I didn't even know existed or at least never tried, until Netflix corrupted me and I learned what binge watching a series was all about.

I think there were only four seasons of this series but they were all good and I believe it was the first TV series that I ever binge watched as well. It was pretty addicting.

I can't even begin to express my love for this TV series. I had no idea you could have a TV hangover until I got to the last season and then the last episode of this series. I was heartbroken that it was all over.
This is still one of my top ten favorites.

Another series that I was heartbroken when I came to the last episode. I was so not ready for this to be over. I loved Veronica and her dad, they were such an amazing team and I loved their relationship. I watched the movie and while it was good, it just wasn't the same.

This TV series is just terrifying and has made me so paranoid now but I love it anyways and while it is still active, I haven't watched the latest season because Netflix doesn't have it yet. I'm hoping like heck they get it this summer.

So there you have it. Shows I've watched in their entirety (to date) and have loved like crazy.

Other shows that are on Netflix now but I watched when they were actually airing and loved and would highly recommend include these:

(miss these two like crazy and I keep hoping they will do something together again)

(I wish this would pick back up again! I keep waiting and it keeps getting pushed back every year :( )

(this one goes off and on all the time on Netflix, right now I currently think it is off but once in awhile they will put it back on there so if you want to watch it, search for it periodically.)

I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting but this is all I can think of off the top of my head (like I need to add more right? I'm starting to think I watch way too much TV).

Anyways, with these shows in mind, anyone have anything similar that they watch that I could start over the summer?  They don't have to necessarily be ones that are competed but I would like them to have at least a few seasons so I'm not stuck only watching one season and then having to wait for the others and left with nothing else to watch again.

Also, I love historical movies and classics (believe it or not based on that list up there). And am pretty open to a lot of things as long as it isn't rated X or anything. ;)

Oh and I should add that I'm up for older shows as well (think 90's). I tried Dawson Creek, Kyle XY, Buffy, and Roswell but while I liked them, I didn't like them enough to even get through the whole first season of them (besides Buffy, I did watch almost three seasons of it but after awhile I got tired of it). Oh and The Librarians, I really wanted to like this one but the two episodes that I watched were so cheesy I didn't watch any others. If they get better then let me know and I will try again. ;)

I've heard Parenthood is really good and I've seen most of Friends off and on through the years and thought about starting from the beginning with them both but, I don't know, they aren't grabbing me right now and I feel stuck on what to do. Help me you guys, I need suggestions.

What are some of your favorites and ones you absolutely were heartbroken over when they were done or ones you eagerly await each week for the new episode to air?

  1. There is a new season of Prison Break coming, just like with the Gilmore Girls! I am so excited about both. I love most of these, but another one I really loved was Jessica Jones. It's only one season so far but it's really fabulous.

  5. I've been wanting to give Grimm a shot. I might have to watch that this summer.

I recently binge watched the X-files hardcore. That's such a great show, even though I had to give it up around season 6 because I couldn't get into the direction the show was going.

Have you tried Frasier? I really love that sitcom. It's a good one if you're looking for something light.

Parks and Rec and Arrested Development are also great ones.

    1. Grimm is awesome, I love it and the whole concept. I've seen a few episodes of Frasier, my mom loves it so I'll keep it in mind when I need something lighter, thanks!

  6. Wow! So many shows I wanna watch, so little time! I'm a bit of a fan... I watch all sorts of investigative shows, criminal or medical (House MD is my all-time fav), and I'm so into Sherlock, and Bones... I loved Lie To Me, though it only lasted 3 seasons. I loved Dracula with Rhys Meyers though it only had one season, sigh.
I need to stop ranting about shows, otherwise this will take all month, lol!

    1. Oh I forgot about Suits! We started watching it and then stopped after the third or fourth season I think. I know we haven't watched the latest. I should definitely catch up on it. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that is so fascinated with TWD. ;)

    1. I adore it and am excited to see where it goes next. I'm kind of hoping it goes old school and we get more of what made the first few seasons so great. It would be a nice change of pace after everything that has happened the last 3 seasons or so.

  9. We overlap all over the place. You may also enjoy Miss Fisher, Father Brown, and Death in Paradise. :-)

  10. Grimm is definitely a very awesome show. I get what you mean by the last season of Sleepy Hollow making you feel that you need to give it up.... Its definitely not going to be the same but i'll definitely wait to see how the next season shapes up.

Really thinking of starting Stitchers soon. But i'm definitely looking forward to beginning the latest season of Penny Dreadful and Season 2 of Daredevil.

  12. Ooh my god, you're a real TV series addict!!! Even I don't watch that many and I thought I had to slow down! :D I'm definitely interested in Stitches and Lucifer. Sadly, I liked Izombie in the beginning but then lost interest.

  13. You mentioned liking Nathan Fillion, have you seen Firefly? Great show! I also spend way too much time binging tv shows. Some I like that you haven't mentioned are Doctor Who, Once Upon A Time, and Blacklist. Charmed, Smallville, and the newer Flash are okay too. (Arrow only when it started) I'm sure there are a few more but I can't think of them right now. This was a fun topic.

Darn, there goes all of my porn recommendations. lol.

Dude, I LOVE iZombie. I need to finish Lucifer. Other than that, I think I' caught up with all of the current shows I watch. And my son told me to watch Scream - he loves it. I guess the new season started this week. Have you watched Outlander? I enjoy that show. And Orphan Black - it's pretty cool. The 3rd season of The 100 just ended - I have a weird relationship with that show, but I can't stop. I watched two episodes of The Librarians ... I agree, it's kind of cheesy. I want to start 12 Monkeys and Game of Thrones.

    1. LOL!

I agree about The 100, I watched most of the first season but then stopped. It was just, I don't even know, I liked it and hated it, so yeah, weird.
I watched a few Orphan Black episodes and liked them but I wasn't in love with it. Every once in awhile I will watch another one, usually in the summer when I have nothing else to watch. I haven't watched Scream, is it based on the movie I wonder? I'll look that one up.
I've heard Game of Thrones is really good and Mad Men but I haven't watched either of those either.

  17. Oh gosh, I just love the show Psych. I need to re-watch a bunch of those just for fun. It's seriously a favorite of mine and I miss it so much. I also need Sherlock to come back! I like Elementary - the Sherlock in NY show. I've missed a lot of the past couple seasons, but I still try and watch when I can. Jonny Lee Miller is great. I do need to utilize my Netflix more this summer and try and watch some fun shows!

  20. I miss Sherlock. I cannot wait until next year, that's when it comes back, right? I did pick up Abominable Bride but I'm waiting to watch it. Did you get that? I love Castle, so sad it's ending the way it is. I need to binge watch to catch up.

I also need to binge watch Izombie which I like but, I can't stand seeing her eat the brains. Ick!

    1. I think that is when it is suppose to be back ya, it was this year and then it was pushed back again. :(
She mixes it up with the brains and it doesn't look so bad now if that helps. ;)
I haven't heard of Abominable Bride, I'll have to look into it.

  21. You and I have similar tastes in tv it would seem. One you didn't mention is Bitten, based in the Kelly Armstrong series. It's good. I binge watched Teen Wolf which was actually good but this past season kind of lost me a bit. I have only watched 2 Supernaturals and I am kind meh about it. Maybe I need to go back. I have only watched the first two Gilmore Girls but really liked them. I need to start binging again.
What about Vampire Diaries? I binged watched those and now watch every week. Hope you find some good ones!

    1. Oh I've watched Bitten! I'm so sad it was canceled but I do plan on watching season three over summer as well! As for the Vampire Diaries, I watched it up until the last season, I didn't like that Elena left and had no desire to continue it for some reason. I don't know, it just didn't seem the same to me. I love that we watch so much of the same shows though, that is awesome!
Oh and I love Teen Wolf too! It can be really cheesy and has veered off track a little with all the other "things" they are dealing with but it is still a good show. I was sad it was put on hold because of O"Brien's injuries (poor guy! I love his character, he is the main reason I watch the show, I love him!). I'm hoping it can pick back up again.

  22. Lucifer's on Netflix. I missed the beginning of this show and really wanted to watch it. I was hoping that Netflix would pick it up. I'm also waiting for Amazon Prime to pick up season three of Vikings. I watched the first two seasons and really loved it.

  23. Ooo some good ones to binge on. I'm a fan of Grimm, Gilmore Girls, Fringe (until it went a spot nutty towards the end), and Veronica Mars. I binge watched all of those this past year I'd say. lol And Prison Break. Man, yeah. That was a fantastic show!

I tend to watch while I blog so things are in the background running all the time. I just did Primeval and Dr Who which were both entertaining. :D
